American Artists Register for ART IN ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS

ART IN ARCHITECTURE PROJECT
GSA Synopsis for Artist Services
The General Services Administration (GSA) Art in Architecture Program commissions American artists (citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents or Permanent Workers of the United States) to create publicly scaled and permanently installed artworks for federal buildings nationwide. GSA allocates one-half of one percent of the estimated construction costs of new or modernized federal buildings for art commissions.
Artists who wish to be considered for this and all future GSA art commissions must submit application materials to GSA’s National Artists Registry.  The Registry constitutes the qualified list of artists for this and all GSA commissions.  Instructions on how to join the Registry are available on the following Website:
GSA evaluates artists based on the following criteria: the media, materials, content, style, and scope of the artist’s past work, along with the artist’s past performance and experience with commissions or public art projects.  Short-listed artists will be contacted and asked to submit additional information including a statement that he or she can perform the work associated with the GSA commission within the identified budget.  GSA will count the combined weight of all the selection criteria as significantly more important than price.
At a minimum, the scope of services for commissions will require: collaboration with the lead designer selected for the building project; development of preliminary and final concepts; fabrication of the artwork; participation in meetings and conservation reviews as necessary; and the installation of the artwork at the project site.

Crowd Publish TV: Woman Engineer Produces Book and Movie, Creates Web Platform For Creative Entrepreneurs

WOMAN ENGINEER PRODUCES BOOK AND MOVIE, CREATES WEB PLATFORM FOR AUTHORS AND CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURS AFTER GETTING FIRED FROM GOVERNMENT JOB

Lisa Schaefer

Lisa Schaefer, PhD

If you are highly sensitive, dislike controversy, or don’t want to know anything about sexual harassment in the workplace, then please don’t read this post to find out how Lisa Schaefer turned her experiences into a movie and more.

Washington, DC, March 21, 2013  -  Lisa Schaefer was always a high achiever throughout her twelve years of engineering education. But the workforce wasn’t quite as accepting of her contributions. So when she was fired from her job at a multi-billion dollar government contractor the day after a fellow employee masturbated in front of her, she decided she would never go back to another job like that again.

Instead, she wrote a book about what it was like working in that office. She also produced the web series and movie Budget Justified, reenacting what went on in those offices leading up to getting shut into a conference room with a coworker with his pants down.

Having experimented with gamer platforms where there’s constant opportunity for live interaction, Schaefer wasn’t satisfied with online resources for authors to sell their books. Thus she’s created CrowdPublish.TV, an online artist shop where authors & book lovers interact directly and build community through live streaming video.

“With the internet, television no longer has to be one way communication,” Schaefer says. With CrowdPublish.TV, authors can hold discussions with readers, almost as though everyone is hanging out in a bookstore together. Authors no longer have to be beholden to a middle-man to control whom they reach.

2 Calls for Artist Submissions

Call For Art – Cell Mates

The Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University seeks submissions for “Cell Mates,” two distinct group shows that will be on view side by side in adjacent galleries. Curators Jeanne Brasile and Lisbeth Murray will divide the 2,000 sq. ft. gallery in half, creating two separate exhibitions of artwork inspired by cellular forms. The curators seek art that addresses a wide range of topics related to cellular forms to create a discursive exploration into microorganisms and concerns derived from their study.

The goal of the curators is to demonstrate modes of creation inspired by science, in addition to examining how curators using the same narrative framework can come to very different thematic and aesthetic conclusions. While aesthetics are a concern, the curators are particularly interested in how artists incorporate scientific methods into their practice, how artists obscure or pronounce the delineation between artistic and scientific practices, and/or how artists visualize scientific data to create works of art, placing the artist in the role of quasi-scientist. All types of media are eligible.

Exhibition dates are June 2 – July 18, 2013.
$15/5 entries.
Deadline: Wednesday May 1, 2013 (receipt date)

Call for Artists: MIXED BORDERS and HYBRID IDENTITIES

Call for Artists: MIXED BORDERS & HYBRID IDENTITIES
Photography / Video Art / Video Mapping / Computer Graphics / Painting / Architecture / Installation / Sculpture / Performing Art
FREE SUBMISSION! Deadline: April 07, 2013
International ArtExpo is selecting all interesting photo works, video/short films, computer graphics works, paintings, architecture projects, installations, sculptures and performances to include in the next 2013 Exhibition:
MIXED BORDERS & HYBRID IDENTITIES - International Art Exhibition of Photography, Video Art, Computer Graphics, Painting, Architecture, Installation, Sculpture and Performing Art held in Riccione (Italy) during the Nightshow, Annual Exhibition of the Night-related Industries and Technologies (www.nightshow-riccione.com).
organizer: International ArtExpo
curator: Luca Curci

press office: It’s LIQUID Group
opening: April 26, 2013 at the Conference Centre of Riccione (Italy)
date: April 26-27-28, 2013
FREE SUBMISSION! The deadline for applications is April 07, 2013
The selection will be based on the main concept of the Hybridization and mixing of Identities and borders and it is divided into two sections: MIXED BORDERS and HYBRID IDENTITIES. Nowadays, urban environments, people, rules and limits are no more distinct realities, but they constantly modify and get mixed together, generating new connections and hybrid results. Ethic, social, sexual and religious borders get confused and we feel free to overcome and change all the limits, creating and showing a new type of identity: a crossbreed of characters inserts into a metropolis in which you can find everything you need and become everything you desire.
The exhibition concept is strictly connected to the Nightshow event, since the night is the perfect moment in which all these changes get revealed. During the night the borders vibrate and identities start to get confused.
The Nightshow is an extraordinary experience which will involve thousands of exhibitors, artists and viewers. During the exhibition there will be music events, conferences, showcases, workshops, art shows and many more. More than 100 artists from all over the world will perform music, 3D video mapping projects around the city and partners such as Redbull, Samsung, Yamaha. The event will be at the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th floor of the Palazzo dei Congressi of Riccione, where the fourth and fifth floors will be dedicated to video art, music, installations and art exhibitions.
International ArtExpo will present artists from all over the world in two main venues: Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Riccione in which we will show video art projects divided into two floors (more than 400 square metres of exhibition space), and the Palazzo dei Congressi (Riccione) in which we will exhibit photographic works, performances, installations and sculptures, paintings, architecture projects and computer graphic works. Additionally three places for the 3D video mapping in the city; strategic video projection points in all the Palazzo dei Congressi, with high visibility; dedicated rooms for solo and collective projects and exhibitions.
To take part in the selection, send your works submissions with a CV/biography, videography and some still images (only for video artists and performers), some samples of works (only for artists) or projects (only for architects) via email to lucacurci@lucacurci.com or via mail to:
International ArtExpo
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 33
70122 Bari, Italy

In the words of performance artist Guillermo Gómez-‐Peña, “Our job may be to open up a temporary utopian/dystopian space, a de-‐militarized zone in which meaningful ‘radical’ behavior and progressive thought are hopefully allowed to take place, even if only for the duration of the piece. In this imaginary zone, both artist and audience members are given permission to assume multiple and ever changing positionalities and identities. In this border zone, the distance between ‘us’ and ‘them,’ self and other, art and life, becomes blurry and unspecific.” (from In Defense of Performance Art)

MutantSpace: Submit Your Art + Skills Exchange Bank

Screen Shot 2013-03-13 at 3.08.39 PM
Mutant Space is one of those sites that really understands how to put online sharing tools to use in meaningful ways. They started their skills exchange project back in 2008 with a simple premise– to give artists opportunities to work with a co-operative of people from all over the world who believe in sharing their skills and resources to make things happen.
So how does the MUTANTSPACE Skills Exchange Bank work?
  • You sign-up
  • Put your skills into the MutantSpace bank
  • Then when you need a creative, production, management, or marketing skill to realise your arts project or event you go into the bank and take what you need.
  • You give what you can and take what you want. Everybody co – operates, everybody helps each other, everybody keeps the door open to endless possibility.

Then to put it all into practice, Mutantspace started a DIY arts festival. The festival, called The Trash Culture Revue, is held twice a year in Cork City, Ireland and is produced with no money! In keeping with this “creative economy” the entire festive operates on the skills of the members of exchange bank. Since kicking-off the first festival in 2009 they’ve produced well over 100 events. Mutant Space says, “What’s best about this festival is that it’s autonomous, it belongs to the members of this exchange. It answers to nobody. And it works. Above all it’s alot of fun.” In an email I received from Moray of Mutant Space, the next Trash Culture Revue is Friday 22nd March. Moray says that there’s been a lot of interest, so the sooner you get in contact with him the better if you want to participate. (E: admin@mutantspace.com)  Then the next revue will take place from May 16th- May 19th, 2013. Get involved now.

The Mutant Space arts blog posts art images four times a day of art from around the world. They love receiving submissions of painting, sculpture, street art, photography, design and illustration/ painting, performance, print, graffiti, murals, installation, exhibitions, photography, collage, and drawing as well as music, video, animation, film and collaborations between different art forms. They love anything on food, theatre, literature and poetry as well as essays, short stories, criticism, politics and activism and also do profiles on art collectives, co-operatives and festivals.

Recently, in an online discussion, a group of artists talked about the importance of getting as many things as possible delivered to their studio doors– from food to art supplies–so they can spend their days at work on their art and waste very little time running errands. It is possible to get just about everything you need delivered, but then concern shifts to all those shipping fees you’re paying. If you want free shipping, then next time you are about to place an online order, stop, and before you click that final *buy button* take a minute to search the Coupon Chief site for coupon codes that you can immediately use to get free shipping and discounts.

Coupon Chief asked me to review their site and I am so glad to discover that they currently have discount coupon codes for buying just about anything online–clothing, pet items, stationery, beauty supplies, and yes, art supplies!

Use Coupon Chief coupon codes to get Free shipping for your Jerry’s ARTARAMA orders, Blick, MisterArt, Flax, Greatart UK, Ink Supply, Utrecht and others.  I easily found coupon codes for 15% off, 20% off, and 25% off an entire store order at Jerry’s ARTARAMA, plus coupon codes to get a free Facebook T-shirt with purchase, a free tube of white paint with purchase, and a free brush-washer, (and who doesn’t  like those free items?).

Coupon Chief has several current coupon codes for Utrecht, to get free shipping on orders over $25 dollars, to save 15% on orders over $75 dollars, to save 40% on any 1 item, to get 20% off plus free shipping on your $75 order, to get 40% off one item + free shipping, and  15% off + free shipping on $100 or more, and new coupons codes to get $30 off on orders of $100 or more.

How would you like to save 20% on CafePress orders? Or get 40% off ebooks? Those were the top two coupons when I visited the Coupon Chief website yesterday.

I also found 14 printable coupons for Staples for substantial savings on ink pens, paper, paper shredders, Flash Drives, Laser Jet printers and a coupon code for free shipping for any online purchase. While reviewing the Staples coupons, related coupons appeared in the sidebar, including 31 printable coupons for Office Depot, and 16 Coupons for Office Max and coupons for Viking-direct UK.

The site currently has discounts for stores such as Walgreens, Macy’s, Overstock.com, Urban Outfitters, Home Shopping Network, and sites such as Emeals.com and 48HourPrint.com.  I reviewed the alphabetized list of stores on the Coupon Chief site and discovered the Army Navy Shop . Using a Coupon Chief coupon code I  placed an order for %15 off with free shipping for some new vintage paratrooper pants I use as art studio work clothes.

In that Coupon Chief store list I also noticed the Apple iTunes Store and the Apple Store had some incredibly low prices on iPads and iPhones. And that list of stores is a great resource for researching new sites you may not discover otherwise.

Artist Marketing Resources Milestone

The Artist Marketing Resources blog launched years before the online *LIKE* system came into existence.

Also, please note that sometimes WordPress misreads your legitimate comments and mistakenly sends them to SPAM. This blog averages 100 spam comments per day, and with one button to *empty all spam*–that I what I do, once or twice per daily. Occasionally, I will see a real comment on the way out with the spam. Sometimes I catch those comments before they delete. I know some good comments have deleted this way. It is upsetting when I see a good comment going out with the bad SPAM. I certainly would like to have those comments on my blog posts and respond to those who left them. One solution is to click *LIKE* on a blog post as well as leave a comment–that way your comment is less likely to end up in the SPAM folder.
