Arc Gallery San Francisco + Online Gallery Call for Artist Submissions

Arc Gallery in San Francisco is seeking submissions of works of art from artists that address the concept of “structure” in all its forms.

GALLERY & ON-LINE GALLERY
There are two opportunities to get into this show. The juror will select works that will be exhibited in the Arc Gallery at 1246 Folsom Street and on the Arc On-line Gallery. The juror will also select works that will be shown in the Arc On-line gallery only. This allows for more works to be seen beyond the 1,000 square feet physical limitation of the gallery.

Imagery Engaged with Mathematics — The Art of Alan Singer

Spiro-Gyro, Alan Spiro

Spiro-Gyro, Alan Singer

“My current interests revolve around painting and printmaking – much of the imagery is engaged with mathematics.  I have always been interested in the nexus between science and art,” wrote Alan Singer of his work.

The artist began exhibiting his paintings while still in college at The Cooper Union in New York City and has continued exhibiting throughout his extensive professional career as a fine artist spanning forty years. “There are always shows going on,” Singer says.  Right now his artwork titled Hell the Gate is on view in a museum show in Binghamton, New York.

Singer is a professor of art in the School of Art, College of Imaging Arts & Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, and says of the Artist Marketing Resources blog– ” your blog is a terrific resource, and I conduct a class in Business Practices for Fine Artists, so I find the materials very useful.”

Singer also writes about art in the exhibitions he visits, publishing articles on his blog The Visual Artworker.

BRAVE NEW, OLD WORLDS

A Solo Exhibition of paintings from Gabriella Cleuren’s  BRAVE NEW, OLD WORLDS series.

From 29/08/2013 until 22/09/2013

Church Sint-Nicolaas, Apostelplein 9100 Sint-Niklaas Belgium

Through my fascination with the work of Goya, who expressed his criticism in his etchings and Black Paintings about his contemporaries, memories, testimonies of the war between Spain and France in the 18th and 19th centuries and the 19th century spirit of intolerance, I detect parallels with my time. Two hundred years later, the human condition has barely improved. War is pervasive and spreads across our planet like a wildfire with terrible consequences. Like biblical catastrophes, mankind destroys his environment, his habitat, his existence, his fellow man. One only needs to collect news images to reinforce this vision on which this installation of my paintings has been assembled.

Widows

Widows 2009

My limited edition book contains images of many of my paintings that are not on display in this exhibition. The book contains an essay on my Brave New Old Worlds series of paintings written by Bart Vandenabeele, Professor of Aesthetics and Philosophy at Ghent University. The content–durable images that introduce an important aspect of our era, the 21st century.

Applause Please–the Skillful Balancing Act in the Paintings of Texas Artist J.R. Smith

Applause Please, J.R. Smith

Applause Please, J.R. Smith

View images of J.R. Smith’s paintings above and below and in our sidebar gallery and you will notice that the painter creates a balance in each work that makes it all look so easy. Yet notice again how skillfully the artist incorporates a wide variety of subject matter into each composition in a balancing act that may include animal life, landscapes and plant life, human subjects, architectural features, and still life objects, as well as text and abstract elements.

What garden--me? J.R. Smith

What garden–me? J.R. Smith

J.R. Smith has completed numerous commissions on both interior walls and exterior walls of buildings in several Texas and New Mexico towns. National and international art collectors purchase watercolor paintings and painted canvases and panels from the versatile and prolific artist.

J.R. Smith says, ” I would like to reach designers that are decorating lobbies, entryways and restaurants, etc. I’m getting more calls for mural panels or themed type series that are appropriate for their venue. “
The artist recently completed a series of Cinco de Mayo paintings of dancers and musicians in his characteristic *feel good* style.  There were some delays, according to the artist who stated that, “restoring the sign on the west End of the Wool & Mohair building (in Alpine ,Texas ) slowed the completion of the Cinco de Mayo series but the paintings are now hanging in Los Jalapenos Restaurant on Murphy Street. The Murphy Street weekend festivities will kick off with a reception for the show on Thursday the 29th, August (5:00 – 7:00 PM) at Los Jalapenos.”
