Artist Book Project Now Accepting Submissions

This is an independent book publishing project that will not be of interest to all readers of this blog. I have not personally viewed any of these books. Some of you may find this information useful:

The Artist Book Project, designed to showcase artists, is a book project created by artist Jina Wallwork. Read about the project here. Two previously published books by Jina Wallwork may be viewed on the project blog here. Both books are available for purchase on Amazon.com.  One of the books titled Vision, may be viewed on Amazon.com here.

Jina Wallwork has exhibited artwork in galleries across the world, exhibiting with the finest in contemporary art such as Jeff Koons, Yoko Ono and Grayson Perry. She exhibited with John Baldessari, and was also featured in one of his artworks. Jina has a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Staffordshire University in England and has trained with other art establishments. Jina was also born with a unique perception that some would refer to as mysticism or clairvoyance. This spiritual influence is something that greatly impacts her art. Her visions have become embedded in her practice. This allows her to visually express complicated concepts from spirit such as the diagrams of the universe that can be found in her book Death and Rebirth, that contains 150 pages and sells for $23.00 on Amazon here.

Want your artwork  included in the Artist Book Project book that will be available for purchase from Amazon?

The theme is nature. Submit your creations inspired by nature so Jina can create a book of nature showcasing contemporary art. Submissions are now open. Send paintings, drawings, photos and go wild with the theme.  To be included in the project, all that she asks is a payment of $16 or £10 from each artist. Every artist can take part in the Artist Book Project– visit about the project and the submissions page for more details.

Producing the book

Once Jina has received your images, she will begin work  on the book which will be titled ‘Nature’. The book will be formatted using the professional standard software, Adobe Indesign. It will then be printed using Createspace a sister company of Amazon. This company will print the books using print on demand technology. All participating artists and customers will be able to purchase a copy of the book from Amazon in the United States and Europe.

The book

The book will be a full color paperback. 10″ x 7″ inches. This is a portrait format book, which might be worth keeping in mind as you select which piece of artwork you would like to include. The price of the book will be dependent on its size; it will be influenced by the number of artists that choose to take part in the project. If demand is very high, different volumes will be produced, so we can make sure each artist can be included. Each artist will receive one page each. The page will show the artist’s name, title of the image and a photograph of the artwork.

Jina Wallwork writes on how to use the ‘Artist Book Project’ to network and makes sales:

As an artist it is import to find relevant art business contacts. It is important to find people who believe in your work, and as a business person it is also important to find people who can assist you in turning your work into profit. As an artist you will already have some contacts from agents to art gallery owners, art bloggers and critics. Think of all of your useful contacts and then think of all the artists that will take part in the Artist Book Project, think of their contacts.

Once the book is published each artist that is involved will share the news with their contacts. When they purchase a copy of the book and discover all the other great artists that are included, that means you. Their contacts have now become your contacts. They can search the web for more information on the great artist they have discovered and they may give you your next career opportunity. The book becomes a tool for each artist, to promote all the other artists who take part.

Each artist will not make money directly from the artist book project. However, they will make money indirectly. Each artist will not receive profit from the sale of each book. However, the artist retains complete copyright of the work. The Artist Book Project will have permission to use the image in a single publication. This means that the book is promoting a piece of artwork where the artist owns the original work and owns the copyright. The more successful the book becomes the more it increases the value of the artwork depicted. Consider the current value of your work then consider the value once it has appeared in a published book. A publication will raise your status and how others perceive your work will alter. A lot of artists are successful because people consider their work to be an investment. Those artists cultivate that perception, encouraging others to believe that a work purchased will double in value in a space of five or ten years. Publications are one of those methods in which you convince others that you are going to be one of the greats. It enhances your CV and increases the chances of other opportunities.

Art on Amazon–A Google+ Public Page

(please ignore this verification code: {EAV:f3a728645d545cb0}) If you like using Google+ you may have noticed the option to create a *page* and make it *public* to all Google+ users. Yesterday, I created a Google+ page for the Transmedia Artist Amazon store. I named this Google+ page Art on Amazon.

I used the Artists on Amazon logo above, but simplified the page name to Art on Amazon to bring more people interested in art to the page. This new Google+ page is more than just a static profile page. I will continue to post items to a stream from this page and encourage artists selling in the store to do so as well.  I have already added several items listed in the Transmedia Artist Amazon store. Visitors may comment on these and other  posts.

The Art on Amazon Google+ page is a great place for artists selling in the Transmedia Artist Amazon store to post more about their art and interact with buyers. For instance, artists may share details and behind the scenes details and photos about the making of an artwork, or share photos from an art exhibition, and more. This will help bring interest and buyers. I plan to post to the Art on Amazon Google+ page daily, and would like to see store artists post as well.

All are welcome to the Art on Amazon Google+ page.

I Uploaded My E-book to Amazon Kindle This Morning!

Cover of "Kindle Wireless Reading Device,...

Cover via Amazon

Have you been wanting to add an ebook to Amazon so you can tap into the Kindle market to create an additional income stream that will generate additional cash flow?

OK, I have delayed uploading my 90 page ebook manuscript to Amazon Kindle, but finally decided to give it a try this morning. If you have ever tried to upload your ebook to Amazon, or other ebook sales site such as Smashwords or Create Space,  you know there can be frustrating formatting requirements and issues. Like CreateSpace and Smashwords, Amazon also had its own unique manuscript format requires. It was a bit of a nightmare for a while. I spent hours formatting my manuscript to get it just right for acceptance to each site. But now, at last, Amazon has gotten around those problems! Amazon no longer requires specific formatting exclusively but accepts a variety of manuscript formats! I uploaded my ebook, The Transmedia Artist Guide to Making Artist Submissions, this morning in less than 15 minutes! My ebook will be available to buyers in 12-24 hours.

5-1 Rule for Social Media

function \frac{z^3}{z^5-1} in the complex plane

Image via Wikipedia

The 5-1 Rule of self-promotion—  That is, cross-promote other artists and share valuable information five  times (5 tweets, 5 comments, 5 posts) before you promote  your own art or services.

An early book on how to use Twitter, by Steve Weber, states a 10-1 rule for tweets. But I think that with 10-1,that is, if every ten tweets are about someone else before tweeting about yourself, then your identity could get lost, and could even confuse followers.

The 5-1 rule makes more sense, IMO.

This week, on this blog, I think I have approximated the 5-1 rule by posting about 2 Technorati articles on artists, offering artists an article on their own art (via a contact form), and providing options for artists to sell on Amazon dot com in the new Transmedia Artist Amazon Store. For the 5th item, I’m letting all my readers know that they can sign-up to my newsletter to receive a list of 12+ great top sites where artists can submit their art for features and increased exposure.   My newsletter  is already written and waiting in AWeber for a Sunday July 7th, 10:30 a.m. send-out. Artists Pooling Resources for New Amazon Store

Image via Wikipedia

Dear Artists and Readers of Artist Marketing Resources blog

The Transmedia Artist Amazon Store is set-up  to sell original art and artist products (such as posters).

The advantage to selling on Amazon is that Amazon has millions of shoppers and the holiday buyer season

is approaching.

If you have a Giclee print or two (etc) you would like to sell in the Transmedia Amazon store.

All sales are on commission basis, but to list, each item must have a UPC or EAN or ISBN etc code.

UPC codes are purchased in blocks of 100.

One artist may not need 100 UPC codes (for $760USD and up to thousands)

So I have purchased 100 UPC codes and will share the UPC codes with each artist

listing in my Transmedia Artist Amazon store.

Or if you wish to purchase your own,

codes can be purchased online here:

How to Upload Your Digital Book to Kindle, by Nancy May

Kindle populates the retail E-book selling market

“Millions of people now own Kindles.”, “And Kindle owners read, a lot. When we have both editions, we sell 6 Kindle books for every 10 physical books. This is year-to-date and includes only paid books — free Kindle books would make the number even higher. It’s been an exciting 27 months.” This a press release by the CEO and founder of Amazon.com Jeff Bezos.  As Amazon.com don’t issue sale figures for Kindle it is hard to stipulate an – exact figure.  According to Bloomberg by the end of 2010 Amazon.com would sell an average of: 5 million Kindles whereas in, 2009 sales were predicted by Bloomberg to be: 2.4 million Kindles.  With, sales figures predicted like these it is no wonder why the iPad as a digital reader is, overtaking the Barnes and Noble Nook as the Amazon.com’s Kindle’s threat in the digital E-Reader.

As a self publisher, it is imperative to, keep up with the trends of the modern-day reader.  Some may think being a writer is an easy occupation.  It is one of the hardest and being able to get work across to the reader is, ever changing with, the integration of the E-reader.  The book is written.  How exactly then, does a writer go about getting their work published on the: Amazon Kindle?  This guide will help any writer who; wants their work read as an e-book.

1)      The book manuscript is complete.  Now what happens? First things first…Editing, when submitting your book online onto Kindle, (be aware though on the Nook, it is only available to authors living in the US).  Editing is, an essential role, for as the old saying goes; four eyes are better than two.  It is best to check around, editors can be found in the first page of the book, in reference books obtained via – your local library or, simply via an internet search.  In my experience with an Editor, it is more financially viable to go with an outside source than, the Authorsolution house.  An Editor for an, 60, 000 word novel can, take just as little as two weeks to, do a complete edited version of the book manuscript – to your own specific requirements. A useful link: http://aplusediting.books.officelive.com/default.aspx A Plus Editing services.

2)      Now the book’s manuscript is edited, how exactly does it get transferred from the word format in Office to what, the reader holds in the Kindle reader?  Amazon Kindle stipulates that, the Digital Text Platform is, compatible with, a word document.  Here again, in my experience and, researching from scratch – just exactly how to upload.  It is best if, the edited manuscript of the book is saved as, a – web page, filtered.  That way; the layout is, discarded with any, needless extra spacing.  Though; as a web page filtered the: txt. Document is, translated into: HTML, the recognisable format of the Kindle Digital Text Platform.  A free programme that will create an E – book can be found here: http://www.mobipocket.com/en/HomePage/default.asp?Language=EN E-book creator

3)      Now the E-book is created. The place to upload the E- book is – Amazon’s Kindle, in doing this; there are only these basic rules an author needs to adhere to: the author holds the rights to the work being uploaded; the author has a synopsis for the title of the work.  (The Title is usually the first thing given to the author’s book).  A book cover is also needed for the book on the Kindle store.  Book cover designers can be found on the first page of a book, in a reference book or via an internet search.  Useful link:   To http://www.bookcreatives.com/ (for book cover designs you will need an ISBN). Though if you do not yet have a book cover a placement holder cover will be assigned until book cover upload.

4)      To create a Kindle account which, an author uploads via the digital text platform.  This can be found here: https://dtp.amazon.com/mn/signin creating an account and signing in is a simple process.  All the information required is the author’s address.  As a UK author publishing on Kindle I am unaware if an author in the US are required to fill out bank details.  In the UK royalties are paid to the author by cheques.

Please note that when an E-book is published on Amazon’s Kindle it, does not necessarily means the author will generate book sales.  For book sales to increase it is important that, distribution to the media is made and networks are formed on the internet via Facebook.  Please also not when self publishing on Amazon’s Kindle it is better for increasing book sales to, have the book reviewed and blurb by, an already established author.

Nancy May, author.
