Open Call for #Artist Entries for Exhibition: Flat Rate Box

This is an opportunity that I discovered while updating our International Art Gallery Directory — now over 800 pages of art galleries and links to their website, address and contact information, and their submission guidelines–all of which require continual ongoing attention, review, and updating as needed.

The opportunity I found is “Flat Rate Box”–

“Flat Rate Box” is an open call to artists for artwork to be exhibited at the Modified Arts contemporary art gallery in Dec. 2017.

In this exhibition, artists working in all mediums are asked to submit work that fits into a USPS Flat Rate Box– regardless of size upon opening. Artists are encouraged to explore the possibilities of art works that transcend shipping size restrictions.

Read the full submission guidelines here.  This is a No entry fee opportunity.

Plans for Promoting Your Art in the New Year

unnamed

Maybe you’re feeling a bit rusty after taking time off during the holiday season and now you’re eager to reset and restarted in the new year with new ideas and new plans for your art. Many people have mixed feelings right now–during the first week or two of a new year–and you may too. Some may feel eager and optimistic, even wistfully hopeful for the months ahead, while others tend to be more earth-bound in their expectations.

Right now could be a good time for a reality check and a little tough love, especially when it comes to where and how best to place your efforts when it comes to promoting your art.

Here are some thoughts on getting off to a good start in 2017!

splitshire-3979

So you want more visibility for your work in 2017! Great goal! How do you spend your time wisely to reach your goals?

While, yes, there are plenty of art magazines and blogs that will feature your work at no cost,  do you really know how and where to find all the best opportunities for your work? And, by the way, what is the best way to show your art to magazine editors? How many art galleries accepting submissions could you find on your own and how long would it take you and at what cost? What valuable opportunities are you missing out on in the meantime?

Plan to use your money and time wisely and effectively in 2017

The internet has powerful search tools that cost you little more than your time, the cost of a computer, and the price of an internet connection. But, is spending hours and hours of your time searching online wearing you down and discouraging you? It can get pretty dull day after day, and confusing–just how do you organize what you’ve found?

The True Costs

Have you really calculated how much an hour of your time is worth and then multiplied your hourly worth and expenses by the total number of hours spent searching? Wouldn’t you rather be spending your time making more art and getting it out to the best opportunities as quickly as possible? Also the time you spend searching online may be time better spent developing your pitch and actually getting your CV, Artist Statement and artwork images out to be viewed and reviewed.

And how about your jpeg images — are they professionally labeled for submissions? That alone can take hours of your time.

We’ve understood all of these things for a very long time! Artist Marketing Resources recently celebrated its 8 year anniversary providing artists with information resources and opportunities. That’s right, we’ve spent the past eight years compiling valuable resources for artists, working with artists, and helping artists understand how best to present their work.

Now here’s where the reality check and tough love come in.

Why do what others have already done and are making available to you?

If you really think that you can go online and find hundreds and even thousands of opportunities for your art in an afternoon or two of online searching then you are just not being realistic. You couldn’t get that accomplished in weeks or months even. You may not be spending your time productively. You may be caught up in what is known as busy work. You work hard every day but you are just not sure that you are engaged in the right efforts to reach your goals. By not calculating your true cost in time and total long-term expenses you may be spending your time, energy, and resources where they are least effective. How many valuable opportunities are you missing out on while placing your efforts in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Don’t re-do thousands of hours!

We’ve already spent thousands of hours doing the research for you and we want to share that information, to help you. We want you to put your valuable time and other resources toward your creative work. We’ve already spent thousands of hours organizing resources to help you cut back on your expenses. Don’t repeat our efforts!

Calculate Your True Costs

Realistically, why not calculate what an hour of your time is worth–give yourself  an hourly salary amount of $25-35, and add your hourly internet connection cost + the cost of computer use + overhead + utilities. That’s how any business calculates their expenses.

( If you are not familiar with the term overhead–it’s just that–how much does it cost for you to use the space, or to have the roof over your head,  while you use your computer and do your research? That includes calculating the square footage of your office space, and the corresponding  percentage amount of your rent or mortgage payment, insurance, property taxes, utilities, furniture, equipment and any other expense involved for you to use that space.)

If you can immediately cut those expenses and research time down to a fraction, wouldn’t you do that?

That’s what we are offering you.

We’re sharing thousands of hours of research at a fraction of the cost of to you and at a fraction of what others would charge if they had our resources.  Yes, we’ve been told that an e-list sold by others for $150 only contains listings for art galleries in one country–Italy.

Our e-list of art galleries is a fraction of the price and contains extensive galleries listings within all 50 states in the US and extensive listings of art galleries in countries Internationally. Plus our e-list resource contains gallery submission guidelines and policies–highlighted in red so they are easy to find. Our art gallery e-list consists of over 560 pages and approximately 10, 000 art gallery listings.

We also offer an extensive resource e-list of art licensing companies and their submission guidelines, a resource e-list of art magazines and publishers, other of our resource e-lists feature print sales opportunities, photography agents and sales venues, and another on art consultants. And if you need help with your submissions we have an ebook guide, and offer one-on-one services.

Again the question we asked at the outset–How many art galleries accepting submissions could you find on your own and how long would it take you and at what cost? What valuable opportunities are you missing out on in the meantime? Plan to use your money and time wisely and effectively in 2017 by letting us help you.

Do You Have a Room, Garage or Other Domestic Space to Host A Feminist Art Project?

silhouette-of-strong-feminist-lifting-the-house-the-concept-of-feminism

There are commercial lists of art galleries online designed to attract visitors to the galleries. Our International Art Gallery e-list is for artists, with gallery submission guidelines, and includes artist-run spaces and projects, and alternative project spaces.

One such alternative gallery space, previously based in New York City and now hosting Craftswoman House Temporary Residence Project in Los Angeles–Craftswoman House, seeks feminist collaborators. Their guidelines ask: “Do you have a hall closet, spare room, garage or other domestic space where you could host a project? Have a curatorial proposal or idea for a show? We want to hear from you!”  Visit the Craftswoman House website here. Follow the project on their blog here.

Art Galleries Shift From Once-A-Year Calls To Accepting #Artist Submissions Year-Round

Yesterday, we posted here on how New York art galleries have begun to accept artist submissions on an ongoing basis.

As we double checking and triple checking every link in each gallery listing in our International Art Gallery Directory of over five thousand galleries–available here and here–we’re discovering more and more updated art gallery submission guidelines adopting this “more fluid” artist submission policy.

Here is another–

Art in General in New York City, writes–  “Responding to the current state of artistic and curatorial practice, Art in General’s Open Call has shifted from its once-a-year online deadline to a more fluid model of receiving and reviewing artists’ work. Artists are encouraged to submit project proposals at any point throughout the year.” Proposals are accepted via email –read the full submission details here.

A neighbor, who runs every morning, mentioned seeing wild turkeys in a certain area. So I took notice while driving one morning and saw seven wild turkeys in a farmer’s field near some woods. Since then I see wild turkeys everywhere–I’ve even had them in my yard. It’s kind of interesting how we notice things the more we start looking for them and are more open to seeing what others point out to us. Many photographers know that the more they look the more they see to photograph.

All artists who start looking for opportunities for their art–whether it’s for features in art magazines and art blogs, or for the best print sales venues– find many more great opportunities using our resources. Or if you are an artist wishing to connect with art dealers, art consultants and gallerists–our extensive e-lists will save you time narrowing down the best venues for your fine art and photography.

Today and tomorrow we have a Thanksgiving Special–buy one artist resource and get one free.

I shop at a local grocery store that offers Buy-One-Get-One-Free items, and I appreciate that! So I’m making the same offer to artists.

Buy an artist resource in either of our stores here or here then let us know which one you’d us to send you at no cost–use this contact form:

This Coming Fall Season Are Artists Connecting With Art Consultants or Gallerists Most?

ID-100207911

For the past several years, our extensive e-list of Art Galleries all over world has been our top resource that artists want most all year-long. As this Fall Season comes near, we’ve noticed that it’s our e-list of Art Consultants that artists and arts professionals seem to be getting most often. You can buy either the International Art Gallery e-list or Art Consultants Directory, or both, in our webstore here and Gumroad store here.

We received an unsolicited email from one of the recent buyers of the Art Consultants resource e-list that was sent to us less than 24 hours after she made her purchase.

After Raven Deel purchased the Directory of Art Consultants e-list she wrote to us in an email:

Hi Marie,

It did come through and I have already received 1 client in Texas from sending emails from this file. Thank you. You have done great work in the time and research in building this resource for artists. And you can quote me as saving that.

Best wishes, Raven

You can get ready for the Fall Season marketing and promotions of your art with the International Art Gallery e-list or Art Consultants Directory, or get both, in our webstore here and Gumroad store here.

If you’d like us to review of your work and make suggestions, send your goals and the link to your website in an email to:  MarieKazalia@gmail.com

Master Creator Attributes His Success to Learning How to Submit His Work

I’ve been telling artists for years to submit their work! So I felt validated by a great master when I read this quote–

“Think up ideas for stories, go out and shoot them, and then send them in to the magazines. I was lucky; I figured that out when I was young.” Stanley Kubrick

This great, important and successful filmmaker started out as a photographer and unknown. He got his start by submitting his work and getting it into magazine.

This applies to all artists working in all materials and styles — you should be submitting your work to appropriate art magazines, art consultants, art galleries, interior designers, and art licensing companies.

I wrote and published an e-book guide to help artists make submissions (available here) and e-lists of resources to help artists quickly and easily find the best places submit their work. I continue to compile my extensive and growing e-list of art and design magazines where you can submit your work for a feature (available here),  and an e-list of links to over 5,000 USA and international art galleries (here), an e-list of art consultants (here) and art licensing companies (here). Plus specialized e-lists of print sales sites (here) and photography agents and resources (here).

ArtandOnly A New Online Platform for Art Collectors

ArtAndOnly_Homepage_Platform_for_Collectors

Julie Engelmann of ArtandOnly, a Swiss based art collector platform, e-mailed to let us know that since their launch a few weeks ago, they are rapidly attracting collectors from all over the world who have been looking for a new platform that is on the cutting edge of today’s global art market. ArtandOnly has quickly become the première destination for both art lovers and collectors.

I asked Julie how artists are selected for the ArtandOnly site. According to Julie, the ArtandOnly curatorial team evaluates each emerging artist’s background and education, and looks into prior exhibitions and “who and how the artist has been represented so far. Of course the most important part is the work.” Julie said that their team of curators team has a certain vision and will decide about the overall impression of the work– if it is aligning with that vision.

ArtandOnly Founder Frédéric de Senarclens

ArtandOnly Founder Frédéric de Senarclens

Frédéric de Senarclens launched his new venture ArtAndOnly after seven years in Asia running one of the most successful galleries in Singapore.  Now he has taken his passion, expertise and extensive personal relationships with artists, collectors, dealers and gallerists and expanded into the global online market by developing a new and innovative online art marketplace. ArtAndOnly is a powerful and integrated sales platform that connects collectors and artists to a network of  professionals specializing in contemporary art across many disciplines.

“Once you look at the current marketplace you begin to see the limitations of a physical gallery space. By dematerializing the old brick-and-mortar model, we are able to give collectors a unique opportunity to access the global market directly” de Senarclens said.

ArtAndOnly’s timing couldn’t be more perfect. Artists have also been searching for new ways to access the market, establish direct relationships, and gain greater reach and exposure. This platform provides those connections and exclusive consignments when the other players do not.

In this 800+ page e-list you will find over 10,000+ art galleries across the United States and around the world Internationally– listed under headings for each USA state and internationally under each country heading. Every gallery listed contains one or more clickable links to the gallery website and additional project spaces, plus such information as physical address, mailing address, email contact, and the gallery submission guidelines!

Created with the artist in mind, we include alternative exhibition space, artist-run art galleries and co-op galleries–and so that you are able to quickly identify current opportunities to submit your art–we’ve use red highlighted text to indicate galleries that have open calls for submissions, ongoing calls, rolling acceptance of artist submissions, art galleries that currently accept artist submissions, and galleries that accept artist exhibition proposals or have ongoing open submission policies.

As we continually review each gallery in this e-list, we’ve noted a new trend for more fluid art submission policies being adopted by art galleries. That is, rather than post an annual call for submissions, galleries are beginning to accept artist submissions year-round.

New galleries open all the time, and we endeavor to continually add them–as other galleries move, and expand into multiple locations we track their growth. Some galleries close temporarily and we are always happy when they do reopen, and endeavor to keep track of their status. When a gallery does close permanently, their websites often remain active and are great resources. When a gallery site does go down, we mark it Domains for sale, so that artists may purchase one or more to take advantage of established art buying traffic.

Universities have art galleries that accept exhibition proposals and you will find the details, application process and submission guidelines in this e-list.

Once you purchase this e-list, you will continue to receive the revised and updated versions, sent to you via email, periodically.

Completely and 100% reviewed, revised, expanded and updated November & December 2016, with regular ongoing monthly reviews and updating as needed.

For a Limited Time: Pay What You Wish for Artist Resources E-lists and E-book

ID-10095090

Generosity pays, according some who have adopted a pay what you wish model for their e-books, even calling this the future model for e-commerce e-books, and said to that holds such virtues as increased income and a new method for determining one’s full target market.

THIS IS A BOLD EXPERIMENT!

But I’m always interested in trying new things. So, for a limited time–now through November 5th–pay what you wish ($1.95 minimum) in Artist Marketing Resources online store here.

Keep in mind that I’ve put a lot of work into these resources for artists and continually work to update them!

That’s right, I’m giving everyone reading this the opportunity to obtain the Artist Marketing Resources e-book guide for artists and all e-list resources–art galleries, art consultants, art magazines, art prints, art licensing, Photography Resourcesart sales sites, and the Transmedia Artist Guide to Making Artist Submissions ebook  — for whatever amount you wish to pay!

This is supposed to make everyone happy, result in more money overall and other rewards. We’ll see what happens!  I’ll report back next month.

Best Wishes

Marie Kazalia

Since Artist Marketing Resources became a part of what’s happening online, beginning in 2008, we’ve noticed more multi-purpose organizations springing up–such as Tumuult, based in Berlin, Germany–which has both online and live art projects. Tumuult is scheduled to open in November of this year as an interdisciplinary art gallery focusing on up-and-coming artists and environmental issues,  working with both artists and scientists. Tumuult will be engaging with their public via pop-up installations and lectures.  Plus, they are a creative agency involved in Interior Design and furniture design, and publishes limited edition prints, an art magazine, and art books in English, French, and German.

Submit to the first issue of their magazine here. Find out more about their Pop-up projects and Tumuult publishing here.

These are all areas of interest to us–art magazines, limited edition artist prints, art exhibition venues, and Interior Design art sales– since we promote and submit artists’ work to art magazines and provide publication resources to artists in our e-list here, and have gathered together an extensive list of art print resources for artists here, provide an e-list of over five-thousand art galleries here, and a resources e-list of art consultants which includes select Interior Designers here, as well as Art Sales venues here, and Art Licensing resources here and photography resources here.

Please get in touch for unique solutions for your projects.

USA, Canada, Asia: Art Dealer Renowned For Print Editions

Patrick Painter is an American art dealer who in 1991 began Patrick Painter Editions in Vancouver, Canada and Hong Kong. He is also the owner of Patrick Painter Inc., which he opened in 1997, that includes two art galleries in Santa Monica, California.

Last month, Patrick Painter launched his Facebook fan page as a Public Personality–find it here.

Early in his career, Patrick Painter was mentored by famed art dealer Leo Castelli and curator Walter Hopps.  According to Wikipedia,…” Patrick Painter Editions was established in a depressed market, [yet] he managed to build his business upon the success he had turning editions. Fine art prints, or multiple editions, were looked down upon at the time by many critics and collectors; Painter created a unique approach to the market. In 1996, 20 galleries worldwide had shows of exclusively Patrick Painter Editions.
