Master Creator Attributes His Success to Learning How to Submit His Work

I’ve been telling artists for years to submit their work! So I felt validated by a great master when I read this quote–

“Think up ideas for stories, go out and shoot them, and then send them in to the magazines. I was lucky; I figured that out when I was young.” Stanley Kubrick

This great, important and successful filmmaker started out as a photographer and unknown. He got his start by submitting his work and getting it into magazine.

This applies to all artists working in all materials and styles — you should be submitting your work to appropriate art magazines, art consultants, art galleries, interior designers, and art licensing companies.

I wrote and published an e-book guide to help artists make submissions (available here) and e-lists of resources to help artists quickly and easily find the best places submit their work. I continue to compile my extensive and growing e-list of art and design magazines where you can submit your work for a feature (available here),  and an e-list of links to over 5,000 USA and international art galleries (here), an e-list of art consultants (here) and art licensing companies (here). Plus specialized e-lists of print sales sites (here) and photography agents and resources (here).

Artists: Would You Want Your Art Printed on Condoms?

blogCOndomartwei_ming_ming__113

We always have an eye out for new ways manufacturers use art printed on their products and this one stood out (or up?) as hard to miss (pun intended). A site new to us–that we discovered when they began following us on Twitter– the Bounty Hunter offers up contests and competitions. While the winner of the art printed on condoms prize will get $1000 US Dollars, artists may wish to think through such contests. Is this art on condoms project a one-off novelty or a new trend? Will art on condoms become standard, much like art on skateboards? If soon all condoms will have art printed on them, then an art licensing royalty contract could net any artist much more than the prize amount. Or perhaps winning the prize would be a good start?

If you decide that you’d rather have an art licensing contract and receive regular royalty payments, then how do you go about finding those companies that license art from artists?

Artist Marketing Resources maintains e-lists of the best opportunities for artists here.  Find our Art Licensing resources for artists here.

You may be wondering how to make your approach to art licensing companies and artist agents with your art?

We also offer our guide to artists that includes cover letters that you can use. Get the Transmedia Artist Guide to Making Artist Submissions ebook here.

Or perhaps you would like to try simpler print-on-demand sales of your art as prints on paper or canvas or printed on products. Then get our Art Print Sales Sites + Other Print Resources here.

Sales Venues for Artists: Prints on Paper, Canvas, and on 3D Items

blogWebalphabet

According to highly experienced online sales experts such as the curators at Saatchi online, many art collectors begin to build their collections by buying prints.

Artists may wish to offer prints on paper, canvas, wood or metal through online venues where they may catch the eye of young collectors. That visibility could lead to sales.

For some artists, getting their art printed on a variety of home decor and fashion items may be of interest as well–not just postcards, stickers, t-shirts, cases, and tote bags, but also on 3D items from art toys, leggings, pillows, rugs, deck chairs, mugs, beer bottles to the more unconventional 2D art options of wall flags, metal posters, wallpaper, wall decals and more.

That’s why we’ve put together our newest resource for artists –the Art Print Sales Sites, Giclee and Other Print Resources list . On it we share many venues (online and physical spaces) where artists may get visibility and generate income from their art prints and printed items.

Found on the Web: Save Your Stuff blog, Art Barter and Alteria Art Print Editions

We’ve found some interesting art sites on the web this week.

The latest articles on the Save Your Stuff blog caught our interest. The first, on how to protect your oil paintings from rips and tears  gave honest accounts of how such damage can occur and offered useful ways to prevent against damage. And a Second article on how to deal with pests that can damage your art is also recommended reading.

On Twitter this week, we encountered news from the co-founders of the not-for-profit Art Barter site , as they are embarking on a new commercial venture: Alteria Art.

Alteria Art wishes to work closely with associated artists, commissions artists to produce handmade high quality limited edition prints, and offers the prints at affordable prices on their site to help support Art Barter projects.

On Art Barter, artists upload and list their artworks anonymously and the members of the public offer goods and services in exchange for the artworks. Art Barters artists have exchanged their works for such things as, 6 months of Italian lessons, 3 months of psychotherapy, 30 hours of reflexology, website design, a gallop on a white horse, gardening lessons, a poem for each month of a year and other creative offers ranging from a woman offering to bear the artist’s child to one promising a lifetime supply of cheese.

Oil Paintings by Artist Maria Gibbs Depict Moments From Everyday Life

Hens and Chicks, oil painting by Maria Gibbs

Hens and Chicks, oil painting by Maria Gibbs

Maria Gibbs paints to fulfill her passion for the world around her. She loves the artistic process and the act of painting in oils in her studio. She follows her creative inner voice producing stunning images of subjects that include flowers, succulents, landscapes, and people dancing. Her use of vivid colors bring the paintings to life and her combined brush and palette knife work result in remarkable and subtle nuances in texture. Maria works her large floral images in two series–the first, stylized in nature with much romantic appeal, and the second, near photo-realism. She is excited to share these paintings with you in the galleries on her website  http://mariagibbsfineart.com/.
