ArtandOnly A New Online Platform for Art Collectors

ArtAndOnly_Homepage_Platform_for_Collectors

Julie Engelmann of ArtandOnly, a Swiss based art collector platform, e-mailed to let us know that since their launch a few weeks ago, they are rapidly attracting collectors from all over the world who have been looking for a new platform that is on the cutting edge of today’s global art market. ArtandOnly has quickly become the première destination for both art lovers and collectors.

I asked Julie how artists are selected for the ArtandOnly site. According to Julie, the ArtandOnly curatorial team evaluates each emerging artist’s background and education, and looks into prior exhibitions and “who and how the artist has been represented so far. Of course the most important part is the work.” Julie said that their team of curators team has a certain vision and will decide about the overall impression of the work– if it is aligning with that vision.

ArtandOnly Founder Frédéric de Senarclens

ArtandOnly Founder Frédéric de Senarclens

Frédéric de Senarclens launched his new venture ArtAndOnly after seven years in Asia running one of the most successful galleries in Singapore.  Now he has taken his passion, expertise and extensive personal relationships with artists, collectors, dealers and gallerists and expanded into the global online market by developing a new and innovative online art marketplace. ArtAndOnly is a powerful and integrated sales platform that connects collectors and artists to a network of  professionals specializing in contemporary art across many disciplines.

“Once you look at the current marketplace you begin to see the limitations of a physical gallery space. By dematerializing the old brick-and-mortar model, we are able to give collectors a unique opportunity to access the global market directly” de Senarclens said.

ArtAndOnly’s timing couldn’t be more perfect. Artists have also been searching for new ways to access the market, establish direct relationships, and gain greater reach and exposure. This platform provides those connections and exclusive consignments when the other players do not.

Frédéric de Senarclens has set himself apart in another way– “We think buying and selling art online should be a full-service experience. We look forward to being a trusted partner through the entire process, with advice and a personal touch every step of the way” de Senarclens said.

Life Imitates Art Fundraiser Art Auction March 12th

dignitySAlogo

On Saturday, 12 March 2016 at 2 p.m. (14h00), DignitySA hosts a Prestigious Art Auction at the magnificent 5 star Hollywood Mansion in Camps Bay, Cape Town, South Africa.  Anyone around the world may bid on the art at the auction via telephone.

Notable South African artists will be represented including Benon Lutaaya, Barry Lungu, Dr Jack & Curtis, Restone Maambo, Lioda Conrad, Casper de Vries, John Adams, Carrol Boyes, JP Meyer, Shani Krebs, Alex Hamilton, Andre du Toit, Shui-Lynn White, Jade Holing, Jill Coleman, Dlamini Tendai, Mkhululi Dukuza, TC Malia, Edward Selematsela, David Barkham, Keith Zenda, Sylvia de Villiers and Arlette Franks- to mention a few. A special addition to the auction is a “for children” lot which includes works by Robin Stransham-Ford’s daughter, Epiphany (13); Mario Oriani-Ambrosini’s son, Luke (8); Diago Moss (4), nephew of the late Avron Moss, and Kayla Molenaar (12).

One of South Africa’s foremost female artists, Lioda Conrad, was commissioned by DignitySA to do a portrait series of the honorees. She chose her “Fluidity of Identity” series, and not only donated the portraits, but agreed to act as Curator for the event. Details of her Fluidity Series can be found here: http://www.xposy.com/…/life-imitates-art-lioda-conrad-flui…/

DignitySA chose art to raise funds as artists see beauty where others sometimes cannot. Death and dying needn’t be hideous – it can be a gentle, dignified experience, for the patient and their loved ones.

Remote bidding and on the day sales of additional artworks will be available.

Guests and art collectors can look forward to entertainment by Marc Lottering and Keri Stroebel; unique artwork; experiencing Carlo Harris – a Master Auctioneer – at work; mingling with esteemed guests, board members and legal team, bidding paddle lucky draws; and enjoy delectable gourmet snacks and Montpellier wines.

For more information and a look at some of the works available, or to book a ticket, visit www.dignitysa.org. Tickets are limited, with just 90 tickets still available at R800 per person. Tax deductible donations in lieu of attendance will be welcomed. Contact: Lee on 0769424477 or at lee@dignitysa.org.

Honorees include our first democratic president, President Nelson Mandela – for his Draft Bill “The End of Life Decisions Act of 1999”, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who got the world talking when he publicly supported the right to choose a dignified death and Professor Sean Davison – who founded DignitySA.

The purpose of the fundraiser is two-fold: To raise funds for the Appeal and to honour those who have dedicated themselves to changing an unjust law.

In a recent groundbreaking judgment in the North Gauteng High Court, Judge Hans Fabricius granted DignitySA’s applicant, Adv. Robin Stransham-Ford, the right to an assisted death. This ruling has, however, been set aside due to the State and others appealing the judgment. The date of the Appeal has yet to be announced, but DignitySA’s legal team is fully prepared to vigorously defend our human right to dignity and autonomy over our bodies, for those who demand choice at end-of-life.

Previously Unknown Andy Warhol Painting Discovered + Authenticated

Screenshot 2016-02-03 at 1.53.25 PM

As one who has spent many hours inside the Andy Warhol Museum admiring the galleries of colorful Pop Art and the collections of early Warhol works, it’s easy to see that this newly discovered painting fits right in. This Warhol painting–The Thinker / Thinking Outside the Box / Boy with Birdcage has that early Warhol style, and experts who have authenticated and appraised the artwork have placed it at a value ranging between $500,000 – $2.5 Million US dollars.

Thinking Outside The Box / The Thinker aka Boy with Birdcage was authenticated on December 26, 2015 by G.B. Tate & Sons Fine Art of Laramie, Wyoming. The appraisal document of G.B. Tate and Sons states, “The subject artwork is typical of the artist and compares favorably in quality and subject matter with many other examples of the genre offered in the marketplace. All other factors, including technique, style and signature, are consistent with original works by the artist.”

Amazingly enough, this previously unknown Andy Warhol painting was discovered in a thrift store by a Mr. Michael Wilson, who says, “I’m a rare art finder. It’s a long story. A gift I’ve had since a teenager. It’s a very unusual gift.”

Mr. Wilson, a collector of rare artifacts, purchased the Warhol artwork for around forty dollars in a California thrift store–a framed artwork that had no doubt been passed-over by many other shoppers who were unable to recognize it as a valuable work of art.

“It was a neat discovery,” Michael Wilson, told us here at Artist Marketing Resources, asking us to share his news with our readers. To date, there has been very little written about his find, beyond a small newspaper story here.

Mr. Wilson told us that –“When I saw it at the thrift store I think I was attracted to the image concept…it was a strange and unusual feeling I had about it, and I questioned myself why I bought it. The name was illegible, the price was around $40.00. At the time I didn’t have room to hang it so I put it up in the attic. Sometime later a news report came out about two Englishmen visiting Las Vegas who went to a yard sale–one named Andy Fields, who bought a couple of etchings or drawings at the sale. They then returned home to the UK. As Andy Fields was re-framing the artworks, in the back of one of them he found an Andy Warhol signed color drawing of what is believed to be Rudy Vallee. Allegedly, one of Andy Warhol’s earliest ones from when he was around 10 or 11 years old. When I saw the news report I also was able to see the drawings signature capital letter “A” with a swirl on top, and it reminded me of seeing it before. It didn’t take long before I realized it reminded me of the painting in my attic. I took a look at it and could see it was the same capital letter “A” with that swirl. So, I got curious about what Andy Warhol signatures looked like and, lo and behold, I found an abundance of his informal signatures on record. I didn’t know anything about Andy Warhol then. I didn’t do anything about it at the time.

Around two years ago, Daniel Blau managed to acquire around 200 drawings by Andy Warhol, never-before-seen by the public, from the Warhol Foundation. He released around five to nine of them on the internet. I think the rest might be in a book. I did some research on Andy for a while and found his white face art and other comparable pictures. But when I saw one of the released drawings of a little boy resembling my painting, that went beyond coincidence. With the gathering of evidence I could see the painting was of Andy Warhol himself.

Mr. G. B. Tate, an art expert I once hired for an old painting I had, is a meticulous authenticating researcher. I had gathered up a lot of evidence, but, I still wanted to know who the little boy was….I eventually contacted Mr. G.B. Tate and asked if he could research the Warhol painting for me. He said he has had experience through his many years with Warhol art research, but, it would take a while. The rest is history…”

If you are interested in this Andy Warhol artwork, you can contact Mr. Wilson via telephone or email– find contact information here.

Hunter Collector a New Online Auction Platform

huntercollector

We like new–new ideas, new sites, new ways to get visibility and make sales. Hunter Collector is so new that we know nothing about it. The site hasn’t even launched yet. Could this be an alternative to ebay? A platform to reach serious collectors? Hunter Collector is describing itself an “exciting Online Auction platform for serious collectors.”  We are assuming that fine art fits into that description.

Follow Hunter Collector on Twitter.

Go to their website huntercollector.com to sign up to stay up to date.

When the site does launch we will likely give it a try and then add it to our e-list of art sales venues here.

Artists and Collectors Join The New *Art Direct From Artists* Group on LinkedIN

ID-10011901

Art Direct From Artists began as a group board on Pinterest that has proven to be so popular that I decided to expand it into a new LinkedIN group–join Art Direct From Artists on LinkedIn here.

This new group board will make it easier for all professional to find artists with artworks for sale. Art Direct From Artists on LinkedIn is where hospitality industry executives and others, who really don’t know where to find art for their interior projects, can come and interact with artists who have artwork available.

Artists are welcome to join and pitch their work in the new Art Direct From Artists @LinkedIn group. Art buyers and collectors are welcome to join and find new emerging artists to buy from in the group Art Direct From Artists.

It’s a little bit outside-of-the-box for a LinkedIn networking group. No artist will ever be considered a spammer in this group! No self-promotions get flagged here. Artists are welcome to talk about their work. Buyers and art collectors are welcome to join and interact with artists. Artists are free to start discussions about their work and share links to their websites, online portfolios and web shops that direct buyers to where they can purchase original artworks.

The Art Direct From Artists concept has worked well on Pinterest as a vehicle for directing buyers to view artist’s work. In fact, one full year before Pinterest began offering *Buy Button* options to sell items via pinned product images, I started the group Pinterest board Art Direct From Artists— which requires that artists have retail prices on their artwork pinned images.

Art Marketing Site Promotes Artists and Art Galleries in Unique Ways

blogflootiesgraphic_how_to

Art Marketing Site Promotes Artists and Art Galleries in Unique Ways by Dean Cameron

Having had a 30 year career in Marketing and owning an Online Art Gallery and Publishing business since 2002, it is obvious that “times are a changing”. While there is nothing inherently wrong with traditional methods such as Gallery Representation, Art Shows and such, they are rendered somewhat incomplete with today’s super connected world that we live in. Social Media Networking is paramount to the vast majority of up and coming artists and that is not just Facebook. Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, Stumble Upon, LinkedIn and now YouTube offer unique opportunities and diverse clientele to develop an artist’s brand and to stay connected to interested potential clients. So is Social Media the answer to a successful art career? I would say this. As Social Media came on like a storm so will the next best vehicle (we don’t know what it will be yet because some 12-year-old is inventing it in their mind right now) so we need to be as current as we can be.

One thing I have learned in 30 years of Marketing is that opportunities come from many directions. So our Marketing Plan should take advantage of that and cast a wide net. An Artist needs to have a complete tool box in which to develop their market and build their art creating business. We have developed that Tool Box. www.flootie.com creates a menu of items an artist can choose from in order to best suit their plans. Most “Art for Sale” Internet Sites are what we call “Post it and Forget it” type sites. You post your book of work online and hope that someone comes along and makes a purchase. www.flootie.com is not that type of Internet Marketing Site. We offer the following features for artists to be proactive in their efforts to sell their works and create their brand.

  • Flootie offers a free listing in our International Artists Directory (see Registration link for Artists and follow prompts).
  • Flootie offers a free listing in our International Art Gallery Directory. Our site works well for Artists and their Gallery partners to work together to market an artist’s brand (see Registration link for Artists and follow prompts).
  • Flootie offers very affordable subscription levels and does not charge upload fees or commissions on sales.
  • Flootie offers one on one support to answer marketing questions
  • Flootie offers all major Social Media links for sharing directly from your art listing. You can share to your network and anyone else can share your works with their networks in an easy efficient method.
  • Flootie offers a direct email invitation tool to share your activity on Flootie.
  • Flootie offers a method to automatically share your latest posts with any fan who selects you as a favorite artist in a “once per week” email notification.
  • Flootie offers an option to embed your Google Calendar to your page to keep people informed of your shows and exhibitions.
  • Flootie offers an option to include a video on your page to bring life to your relationships with potential clients.
  • Flootie charges no commissions for sales so you can drive potential clients to your website, or any other location you wish to generate traffic to. We are not competition. We are your marketing supercharger.
  • Flootie offers a blog for subscriber artists to post their latest stories, reflections and insights.
  • Flootie owns and operates our own TV Studio and produces Flootie TV now being shown in 7 states on 8 Public TV Stations with that number growing fast. Flootie TV incorporates a “general public” approach to the arts with some comedic shorts as well as serious artist interviews. Think of it as “The Tonight Show” for the arts.
  • Flootie is a socially conscious company and has an ongoing program called “Artists Forever” that awards art supplies grants to grade school art classes to empower teachers to supplement their meager art budgets in the school systems and develop the next generation of creatives.

This is by no means the end of this list. Flootie is well underway with even more creative tools for artists to connect with art lovers. Our mission is to make the term “Starving Artist” obsolete. We would look forward to seeing you as a fan, an artist or an art related business. We are a grass-roots and privately owned entity with the sole intention to bring the artists and art lovers together in an intentional way.

The Artworld app is about helping and giving back while engaging with artists aesthetically, intellectually and practically. “I’m very interested in the development of ideas, whatever the discipline: poetry, physics, app development, philosophy, literature and fine art. You name it . I write well, am a well-published if rather traditional poet and enjoy the role of curator and literary editor. I bring a particular talent for empathy and objectivity to my subjects, and with the visual arts, while having no formal education in fine arts, I hope to bring a freshness and a candor of approach,” says McFarlane.

Video: Artist Metrov Responds to Curators Request to See His Process

California artist Metrov demonstrates his skills as an artist, film editor and filmmaker in his “Making Of” documentary video A Study in Body/Psyche Ratios. Below:(runtime: 7 minutes).

Metrov wrote this introduction to his video–

“Last year, I made a (30) minute documentary video about my life in the arts. Though it was well-received, I had a few curators tell me they are mostly interested in the artist’s “Process.” I also got a fair amount of feedback suggesting the video should be shorter. This new video is (7) minutes and focuses solely on “the Process.” Since I’m an experienced filmmaker and editor, it was relatively fun and easy to produce this kind of presentation. I believe the video should help viewers more deeply understand and identify with the work. However, I’m not inclined to write much about it as it should speak for itself. Anyone is welcome to contact me should they want more info.”

A Study in Body/Psyche Ratios (Warning: Adult Content)

Metro’s video demonstrates the “making of” work in his new 2015 series: A Study in Body/Psyche Ratios  — eleven 24″ X 18″ mixed media paintings on archival photographs and two 36″ X 24″ mixed media paintings on canvas. Each original is accompanied by ten 40″ X 30″ signed, limited edition prints. For more information, please contact the artist.

Metrov: Commission A Portrait to Rival #AndyWarhol

Born in Los Angeles and schooled in art at UCLA, Metrov began his career in New York City doing illustrations for major publishers such as MacMillan, McGraw-Hill, New York Magazine, and ultimately Push Pin Studios, the only graphic designers to ever exhibit in the Paris Louvre. He eventually segued into Fine Art painting after studying with Prix di Rome scholar, Gilbert Stone. Metrov began doing portraits of celebrities and international socialites. He quickly became renowned for his uncanny ability to capture his subject’s “spiritual essence.” “It’s not something I try to do, it’s simply what comes naturally. Some have called it a psychic ability,” says Metrov, now living and working in Santa Barbara, California, America’s  “Côte d’Azur.”

When Margaux Hemingway saw her finished portrait, she couldn’t stop crying for an hour. Ben Vereen stood speechless before his likeness. Mick Jagger hired Metrov to paint his wife, Bianca. Metrov began competing with his neighbor, Andy Warhol, as portraitist of New York’s elite high society. Growing restless, however, with static artwork, Metrov became fascinated by the potential of motion pictures to be “paintings that moved and made sound.”

 metrovportraitmarqaux
“Margaux” by Metrov (1977)

After spending many years in the motion picture business, Metrov once again began accepting portrait commissions in 2012. His style has evolved over time, but his art, whether digital (as seen  below) or photographic with synthetic polymers, continues to reflect his subject’s inner nature as well as their common human struggle to balance the often chaotic energies around them.

Metrov was recently invited to conduct a public portrait session at the Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary Art as part of Marinella Senatore’s, highly acclaimed “Building Communities” exhibition. The event was a huge success. Some of the portraits from the exhibit may be seen on his website: http://www.metrov.org/mcasb-portraits/

Wellspring of Life the story and inspiration, by Randy Marmet’–
“We float over a sea of tumultuous energy, right through a barrier of fluid dynamics into a dimension of transcendence where creativity is born in synaptic interaction.  If you could peer into the depths of the creative process, this is where you would find a pulsating liquid nuclei that refuses to be subdued into shape or form and is similar to where life began.  My inspiration came from a deep water dive off the coast of Florida where tropical life was teeming in and around a barrier reef with such energy that it made me feel like I had discovered the secret to the source of life itself.  This sacred place spoke to me in a whisper as I was sworn to secrecy because of it’s fragility.  I cannot return to that place, but I can show you how it felt.”

blogGIFA_Logo_aug2012-sml

The Gregg Irby Fine Art gallery represents emerging artists at affordable prices in the niche market they’ve built. Gallery curators scour the country for new talents to bring their clients one-of-a-kind paintings by artists who have yet to be widely discovered. They strive to have a variety of painting styles in their gallery.

Both aspiring and established art collectors in Atlanta, Georgia can see the available artworks in person in the Gregg Irby gallery.  Plus, their connection to the up-and-coming art community allows Gregg Irby curators to source stunning paintings from artists for collectors shopping in their online gallery shop.

If you are an artist, take a look at the art on the gallery site. If your paintings complement what you see on the site and you think that you work in a good fit and in line with their price points–you can email 5-7 images to the gallery. Read the full submission guidelines on the gallery site.

Artist Marketing Resources continually adds more and more galleries to our e-list of 5,000 international art galleries. We’ve been working on the e-list over the past several years. Gain access to the international art gallery e-list here.
