Highly accomplished African artists invite portrait commissions of couples and families for Valentines Day

blogpregnantcoupleportrait

Highly accomplished African artists invite you to commission a portrait of your family members and loving couples for Valentines Day. Commission a pregnancy portrait. Give the gift of a personalized fine art portrait of your wife, husband, or partner. Commission an original fine art portrait for your wedding anniversary. Collect portraits of your children as they grow. Commission an African artist to create a portrait for you to give as a personal one-of-a-kind birthday gift. Commission a personal business portrait for your office wall.

“In all fields of the visual arts, but perhaps particularly in portraiture, the experience of contemporary African art is revelatory. Created in often challenging circumstances, the work is striking in its technical accomplishment, its honesty and integrity.” Dr. Keith McFarlane PhD

These commissioned portraits are real fine art, affordable, and one-of-a-kind. Your portrait may be a hyper-realistic pencil drawings on paper or an oil painting, or even a painting in other fine art materials. Portrait artists in Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and other African countries will be happy to consult with you one-on-one to determine the best options for your needs.

Artists such as Theophilus Boateng Kwaku Sarpong of Ghana, Elijah Mutua from Nairobi in Kenya, and Anton Kilian from Port Elizabeth, South Africa are just a few of the many artists available to create your portrait.

blogfaceportriatShadeofBlue

Africa was chosen for the opportunity it affords to provide collectors and art buyers with affordable fine art original portraits and to bring much-needed support and financial benefits to emerging artists in Africa( one US dollar is far more valuable in Kenya or South Africa than it is in the USA itself.)

To commission an art work, or request more information, contact Dr. Keith McFarlane, via email here. If you’d like to telephone to discuss a portrait commission, please keep in mind that Amsterdam time is about 6 hours ahead of your time zone in the USA. Here is the phone number to call: +31 20 89 32 791

African portrait artists work from one or more digital photographs that they receive via email from anywhere in the world. Size, materials, price, and delivery date are agreed upon in advance. Negative Entropy / the ArtWorld holds the funds (payment in advance) pending satisfactory completion of the commissioned portrait. Funds are released to the artist only on buyer’s approval.  To commission a work, or request more information, contact Dr. Keith McFarlane via email here. If you’d like to telephone to discuss a portrait commission, keep in mind that Amsterdam time is about 6 hours ahead of your time zone in the USA. Commissioning a foreign artist for a portrait, and the artists accepting foreign commission involves a high level of trust on both sides. Recognizing this, Negative Entropy / the Artworld created a service that will safeguard the money while at the same assuring the quality and delivery of the commissioned art work. By acting as a trusted intermediary, the Artworld makes it possible for the direct commissioning of exceptional young artists by international buyers. It will do so, in line with the Artworld’s philosophy, at very low-cost. Visit this page for more on the commissioning process and terms.

Dr. Keith McFarlane PhD is an Amsterdam, Netherlands based scientist, physicist, and IT architect, as well as a published poet, arts entrepreneur and founder of Negative Entropy. McFarlane is the designer and developer and owner of the ArtWorld app. Download the app (free of charge) from the Apple App Store here.

The ArtWorld app, which creates a window on very affordable original art, expands its services to facilitate commissions of portraits.

This service will deliver almost all the portrait price to the artist. Bank charges and a very small commission ( 5%) levied on the purchase price will be charged to the artist to cover administrative expenses.

The Artworld app is about helping and giving back while engaging with artists aesthetically, intellectually and practically. “I’m very interested in the development of ideas, whatever the discipline: poetry, physics, app development, philosophy, literature and fine art. You name it . I write well, am a well-published if rather traditional poet and enjoy the role of curator and literary editor. I bring a particular talent for empathy and objectivity to my subjects, and with the visual arts, while having no formal education in fine arts, I hope to bring a freshness and a candor of approach,” says McFarlane.

Video: Artist Metrov Responds to Curators Request to See His Process

California artist Metrov demonstrates his skills as an artist, film editor and filmmaker in his “Making Of” documentary video A Study in Body/Psyche Ratios. Below:(runtime: 7 minutes).

Metrov wrote this introduction to his video–

“Last year, I made a (30) minute documentary video about my life in the arts. Though it was well-received, I had a few curators tell me they are mostly interested in the artist’s “Process.” I also got a fair amount of feedback suggesting the video should be shorter. This new video is (7) minutes and focuses solely on “the Process.” Since I’m an experienced filmmaker and editor, it was relatively fun and easy to produce this kind of presentation. I believe the video should help viewers more deeply understand and identify with the work. However, I’m not inclined to write much about it as it should speak for itself. Anyone is welcome to contact me should they want more info.”

A Study in Body/Psyche Ratios (Warning: Adult Content)

Metro’s video demonstrates the “making of” work in his new 2015 series: A Study in Body/Psyche Ratios  — eleven 24″ X 18″ mixed media paintings on archival photographs and two 36″ X 24″ mixed media paintings on canvas. Each original is accompanied by ten 40″ X 30″ signed, limited edition prints. For more information, please contact the artist.

Metrov: Commission A Portrait to Rival #AndyWarhol

Born in Los Angeles and schooled in art at UCLA, Metrov began his career in New York City doing illustrations for major publishers such as MacMillan, McGraw-Hill, New York Magazine, and ultimately Push Pin Studios, the only graphic designers to ever exhibit in the Paris Louvre. He eventually segued into Fine Art painting after studying with Prix di Rome scholar, Gilbert Stone. Metrov began doing portraits of celebrities and international socialites. He quickly became renowned for his uncanny ability to capture his subject’s “spiritual essence.” “It’s not something I try to do, it’s simply what comes naturally. Some have called it a psychic ability,” says Metrov, now living and working in Santa Barbara, California, America’s  “Côte d’Azur.”

When Margaux Hemingway saw her finished portrait, she couldn’t stop crying for an hour. Ben Vereen stood speechless before his likeness. Mick Jagger hired Metrov to paint his wife, Bianca. Metrov began competing with his neighbor, Andy Warhol, as portraitist of New York’s elite high society. Growing restless, however, with static artwork, Metrov became fascinated by the potential of motion pictures to be “paintings that moved and made sound.”

 metrovportraitmarqaux
“Margaux” by Metrov (1977)

After spending many years in the motion picture business, Metrov once again began accepting portrait commissions in 2012. His style has evolved over time, but his art, whether digital (as seen  below) or photographic with synthetic polymers, continues to reflect his subject’s inner nature as well as their common human struggle to balance the often chaotic energies around them.

metrovportrait_5
Digital portrait of the artist’s wife, Dr. Maureen O’Brien (2014)

Metrov was recently invited to conduct a public portrait session at the Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary Art as part of Marinella Senatore’s, highly acclaimed “Building Communities” exhibition. The event was a huge success. Some of the portraits from the exhibit may be seen on his website: http://www.metrov.org/mcasb-portraits/

Wellspring of Life the story and inspiration, by Randy Marmet’–
“We float over a sea of tumultuous energy, right through a barrier of fluid dynamics into a dimension of transcendence where creativity is born in synaptic interaction.  If you could peer into the depths of the creative process, this is where you would find a pulsating liquid nuclei that refuses to be subdued into shape or form and is similar to where life began.  My inspiration came from a deep water dive off the coast of Florida where tropical life was teeming in and around a barrier reef with such energy that it made me feel like I had discovered the secret to the source of life itself.  This sacred place spoke to me in a whisper as I was sworn to secrecy because of it’s fragility.  I cannot return to that place, but I can show you how it felt.”

Randall Marmet’ Space Painting “The Outpost” in Images and Video

blogMarmet-Outpost1

Artist Randall Marmet’ lists among his painting inspirations, the NASA space program and a tour he took as a child of Cape Canaveral (aka Kennedy Space Center) to view the 363 feet tall Saturn 5 rockets. As well as celestial inspirations, such as his first viewing of the Southern Cross in Key West Florida from a boat on night waters. And again, seeing the Southern Cross constellation years later, on a trip to Tahiti in the South Pacific– where it is much more clearly visible in the night sky from the secluded atolls of Polynesia.

Russell Marmet’ wrote of his painting titled The Outpost

“While I was painting this, I imagined a colony of humans on another planet far from this place that sends someone here to what they refer to as ‘The Outpost’, a vantage point on the perimeter of the colony’s space domain. There is always an abundance of volunteers that want to visit The Outpost because of the view of the moon and nebulae where new space creations emerge. The beauty and serenity of The Outpost is spellbinding. Let your mind wander to visit this special place and restate tranquility in your mind that you didn’t know could be attained.”

blogMarmet-Outpost2

Specifics:
The painting consists of three canvases with a total dimension of 24 x 60 inches ( 1 canvas 24 x 36 x  1 3/8 inches deep, and 2  canvases 12  x 24 x 1 3/8 inches deep), all three hand-stretched gallery quality canvas.  This is an original acrylic fine art painting, hand-painted and clear coated with archival fine art varnish for protection against dust and abrasion.  The painting extends around the edges providing a very elegant look with no need for framing. Ready to hang and enjoy!  Created in 2014. To acquire this painting click here.
Suggestion:
Note: This painting is best viewed with lighting because of the dark field background.  Track lighting is the most flexible way to light art. Daylight bulbs are best.  Also, the clear coated matte finish archival fine art varnish enhances the depth of color and reduces glare.

Tagging your Art Images On Instagram to Attract Art Buyers

Screen Shot 2014-12-07 at 8.06.34 AM

I first used Instagram at the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland a couple of years ago, where I snapped photos of the art on the walls using my iPad camera and sent them off to my Instagram account using the museum’s WiFi (I had to ask for their password).  I thought I’d taken the time to type in the name of each artist in each photo description. Reviewing those images now (here) on my Instagram profile, I  notice blurry shots not edited out and abbreviated artist names. My picture-taking activity bundled up in my excitement of walking the galleries and viewing the art. It never occurred to me to take the time to add image tags to any of those photos. Likewise, at the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, where the huge galleries held much more and much larger artworks, I snapped and sent my photos to Instagram without tagging them.

Today, viewing Instagram images posted by others, I’ve notice their use of image tags, such as the place tags #ArtBasel #ScopeArtFair used by those in Miami and #Brighton #thingstodoinBrighton and #openstudios used by artist Caia Matheson in the UK.

Screen Shot 2014-12-07 at 8.12.54 AM

Instagram allows up to 30 tags per image. Amid the many image tags used to describe the art medium or technique, artists also tag to get the attention of buyers, with:  #affordableart #artbuyers #artcollectors #buyart #artforsale #paintingforsale #printforsale #onlineshop #interiordesign #giftideas #handpainted #Christmasgiftideas #sellart #artsales

Taking more interest in Instagram and tagging, I noticed an article by Brandon Gaille, on 6 Keys to Getting more Instagram Likes, and learned that Facebook owns Instagram. According to Gaille, “Instagram is the hottest site right now. It was experiencing phenomenal growth when Facebook acquired the site and even thereafter the growth spree seems to be unhindered.”

I also want to share Dan Zarella of HubSpot’s huge infographic on how using more tags on your Instagram photos gets you more likes:
