 FEEDBACK FROM ARTISTS:

It’s great getting unsolicited feedback about our resources and services, such as in a tweet that we received from artist Joyce Dade regarding the $39.95 price of our International Art Galleries Directory. Joyce tweeted to us @TransArtGuide “A very decent price for such an art directory.  Paid $100 years ago for Italian version. I forget the name of publisher.”

Artist Alexis Avlamis, an artist curated into the Drawing Center New York City and featured on the Art21 interview blog wrote to us, in part:

“About two months ago, I stumbled upon your websıte and bought both the Transmedıa Artıst Guıde to Makıng Artıst Submıssıons and the Internatıonal Art Gallery Dırectory Share Lıst. I found them very professıonal, well wrıtten, ınformatıve and eye openıng, especıally when ıt comes to untanglıng the mysterıes and meshes of the art world.”

This week an artist in Europe wrote in an email:

“Hi Marie, I just wanted to say thanks for doing a good job…” an except from an email we received after our submission got this artist a much-needed magazine feature, a requirement to obtain an artist via to the USA. We are also assisting this artist in completing the USA Artist Visa application.

Plus, last week we received a thank-you gift of an original art piece in the mail from an artist we work with!

Artist Marketing Resources would like to thank all the artists who sent such positive feedback. We’d like to make this a regular monthly feature on our blog. So if you talk about us online, please let us know, and you could get mentioned along with an image and link to your site.

Five selected artists will work with the support of Printed Matter and a dedicated designer to realize individual projects…

Submissions are open to emerging artists whose practice has demonstrated a commitment to experimentation within the artists‹ book medium in unusual and exciting ways.

Broadly speaking, Printed Matter is interested in publications that have been conceived as artworks in their own right, rather than books that document work created in another medium. Proposals should not be a conventional catalog of artworks, traditional artists‹ monograph, chapbook, or other straightforward works of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, as these fall outside our scope.

Submitted proposals will be reviewed by a committee made up of Tauba Auerbach (Artist), David Senior (Bibliographer, MoMA Library), Garrick Gott(Consulting Design Director, Printed Matter) and James Jenkin (Executive Director, Printed Matter).

All items should be sent as attachments in a single email to submissions{at}printedmatter.org, with the subject line EMERGINGARTISTS_[YOUR NAME]. Emails should not exceed 10 MB.

Unfortunately, due to the expected volume of submissions, we will not be able to acknowledge the receipt of applications, and will only be able to notify selected applicants.

Timeline
All book proposals must be sent by Monday, August 10, 2013. Selected applicants will be notified by September 10, 2013 with the expectation that work on the first two scheduled projects will commence in the following weeks. The five books in the series will be published over the course of a year.

Support from Printed Matter

  • $1,500 fee to artist
  • Printing and design costs paid (within project budget)
  • Optional access to a designer, who will aid as needed in readying publication for print
  • A launch event at Printed Matter or at our NY Art Book Fair or LA Art Book Fair, or possibly another major fair attended by the organization, including Frieze NY, Basel, Miami Basel, LA Contemporary, Independent, NADA, and Chicago Expo
  • Press announcement of publication via Printed Matter’s social media
  • Opportunity for in-store exhibition and window installation
  • Inclusion in Printed Matter’s distribution program and offerings to libraries and institutions

Surveys on Buying Art and Selling Art

Tom Brereton Downs, owner of the site Artolo,  recently received lots of fantastic feedback from artists about their experience of selling art.  He’d now like to know more about experiences (or not) of BUYING art, and would love you to complete his simple online questionnaire:

http://info.artolo.com/buying-art-questionnaire

He’d love it if you could SHARE the questionnaire with as many people as possible (via email, Facebook, Tweeting about it etc.). He’ll be  happy to share a summary of the findings, which will hopefully be pretty insightful, with anybody that completes the survey(there is a checkbox at the bottom of the questionnaire to tick, if you’d like to receive a copy).

Thank you,

PS If you are an artist and have not completed the selling art survey questionaire, please do so–http://info.artolo.com/selling-art-questionnaire/. If you happen to know any artists that haven’t completed the SELLING ART questionnaire he’d be really grateful if you could and could send this link to them http://info.artolo.com/selling-art-questionnaire/

Annual 5 International Artist Grants: Application Deadline June 15th

International Grant Program 2013/14, Lepsien Art Foundation, Düsseldorf

The Lepsien Art Foundation

Annually, the Lepsien Art Foundation accepts applications for their International Grant Program, as this grant schedule 2013/14, for ‘Emerging Talents’ in Fine Art. A total five grants will be awarded to international artists in the disciplines of Painting, Sculpture and Photography.

Artists can apply annually,  beginning 1st of April. This year 2013, the deadline for applications is  the 15th of June. Usually more time is allowed for applicants to submit, but  due to high number of applications last year, the application period has been reduced.  For the first time, the foundation has a dedicated online application tool for all artists applying for the program on their website: http://www.lepsien-art-foundation.com/

Basic criteria for the application:
The candidates must already have a degree from a recognized national or international art college/university and must have already gained some first public recognition (e.g. exhibitions, publications, etc.).  Applicants should not be older than 39 years at the time of applying for the grant program.

An integral part of the grant program is the provision of studio spaces in the Art House Düsseldorf, Germany (http://www.the-art-house.eu/) where the five awarded artists will work together for the period of the program. Furthermore the program includes the production and publication of limited art editions (Edition Lepsien Art Foundation) jointly with all grant holders. At the end of the grant program a joint exhibition of all artists will take place and an annual catalogue will be published with the Kerber Group in connection with the final exhibition.

Meaning of Light— New Painting in Artist Gabriella Cleuren’s Brave New Old World Series

logo-gaby spontaneous.jpg

The Light symbolic.

Light is a condition for seeing. It is so normal that we are rarely conscious of it. It makes everything visible, but remains unnoticed itself. Nonetheless, it is a graphic means for the artist, which she or he directs, or a given which she or he copiously directs her/himself in their work and in their observation. Because light is decisive for the atmosphere and thus it announces or transfers something to the viewer without him or her becoming aware of it. Light feels nice. It gives brightness, clarity and is the bearer of old archetypal meanings which any person of any culture whatsoever intuitively feels. Light stands for cleanliness, goodness, sincerity, truth, spirituality, simplicity and modesty, strength, wisdom and beauty; in short, for the divine. Thus it is positively set.
