Call for Artist Submissions for an exhibition project in Italy– Places That No Longer Exist

http://www.controzona.it/index.html

“Other places that don’t exist any longer” is a work in progress that originates from the question posed to different people: What is an important place for you that does not exist anymore?

The answer to the question takes the form of a postcard sized drawing of the place chosen by the people involved. The drawn places are of different types, some are related to the intimate and familiar sphere like a child’s bedroom or the grandmother’s house, others refer to a social or collective dimensions, such as meeting places, bars and nightclubs, others again are historical places. What binds all these places together is that they no longer exist: inaccessible, demolished, abandoned or transformed in their use.

Artists contribute to this collection of disappeared places by choosing a place that was important to you, and that does not exist any longer. You are then asked to draw this place on a sheet of paper of the size 10 x 15 cm using the technique you prefer. Please write the name of the place you have chosen and its address or the name of the city where it was on the front of the postcard. On the back of the postcard you should write your name or pseudonym.

At this web address you can see the postcards collected so far:http://www.rebeccaagnes.org/postcards.html

DEADLINE: All postcards must be received no later than Saturday 19 October 2013 at the following address:

MUNICIPALITÀ DI MESTRE-CARPENEDO,
VIA PALAZZO 1,
30172 MESTRE, VENICE, ITALY.

The received postcards will become part of the work in progress “Other places that don’t exist any longer” and will be shown the 20th October 2013 at 11:30 am at the City Hall of Mestre in the frame of “Contro Zona”, Exhibition of Contemporary Art – Mestre – 11th/20th October 2013.
