A PERFORMANCE AFFAIR is a new Brussels based association with international outreach dedicated to performance art. Set up as a not-for-profit organisation, APA is an evolving structure that brings together artists, galleries, collectors and institutions to research and discuss current tendencies in performance art and the economic structures around it. A PERFORMANCE AFFAIR is not another art fair, but a flexible stage aimed at stimulating the acquisition of performance while finding solutions for its development and sustainability.  Events are open to the public and free of charge.

A PERFORMANCE AFFAIR is powered by Liv Vaisberg_ Office for Art & Design and Will Kerr acurated.space.

A ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION Follows:

A wrap-up event at the end of the first edition of A PERFORMANCE AFFAIR: The Panopticon Edition, the round table encourages participants, key players as well as any interested member of the public to discuss some keys questions driving the development of collecting performance art.

While there has been considerable attention around collecting performance in recent years, it remains a niche activity with narratives primarily circulating around a few key artists and collections. The round table is an opportunity for the speakers, participants in APA and members of the public to exchange and explore the conditions that need to be created to make a broader market around performance art.

Some key questions–

What commercial frameworks and strategies exist for selling, circulating and conserving performance art, and what do they have in common with those of more traditional art objects, and where do they differ? What other strategies exist for the support of performance art? What might we learn from making comparisons with economies that
exist around disciplines such as dance, music and theatre? What status do props, drawing, photography and other documentation hold, and how are they presented in relation to the live act, within market contexts and collections–both public and private?

When and Where:
Sunday 9 September, 14:00
In APA Bureau
Vanderborght Building, 2nd floor,
rue de L’Ecuyer 50 Schildknaapstraat – 1000 Brussels – Belgium

From the Jung Katz art blog:

We’re looking for original artists, designers, and photographers to feature on our site.

The Picxe site is in Spanish. I’m a native English language speaker and I have studied Spanish. But can read more Spanish than I can speak. As a study exercise, I registered on the Picxe site without translating the site into English. Well, I did look up some Spanish words in my Translate iPad app while completing the Picxe site sign up on my computer. But, of course, you can use Google Translate to view the Picxe site in English or any other language. In case you don’t know, here are the steps: Go to Google Translate, which you can find here. Copy and paste this link: https://picxe.com  into the first box, and set the language to Spanish. Set the second box to English or other language. Then click the green “Translate” Button. The entire Picxe site now appears in English, or what ever language you have selected.

Studio Visit Site for Making Reservations to Visit Artist Studios

Jacks Pollock's studio floor in the Pollock Krasner house.

Jacks Pollock’s studio floor in the Pollock Krasner house.

We took a few days off during the Christmas holiday week and now we’re back to share the really great Studio Visit site that artists and collectors will want to know about. It’s an artist studio reservation service that is provided completely free to artists and collectors.

Studio Visit is a website for collectors to make reservations to visit artist studios searchable by city and country. So far, the main studio locations listed are cities in Germany, Spain, Mexico, Belgium and the Netherlands. Once you add your studio location your city will appear in the available locations.

Artists simply register with their studio address, name, and at least one picture of their studio. Artist/studios can add up to ten pictures of their studio space, up to ten images of their artwork, a Google map view, artist CV/Statement and other menu options.

The Studio Visit website provides a booking system. Through this system potential buyers and collectors will request a studio visit only on the days, times, and for the duration that the artist or studio configures. The booking system will ask for basic contact information from the collector that will be seen only by the artist/ studio they request to visit.

Once a collector books a studio visit reservation the studio will receive an email. In the studio account menu option RESERVATION MANAGE the reservation booking can be approved or rejected. If approved the collector will receive an email and can only go ahead with the studio visit appointment with this confirmation email.

‘Portrait of Hagiwara Sakutarô’, woodblock print by Onchi Kôshirô, 1943, 1st edition, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo

The Big Ink website and blog has a current call to artists to take part in a collaborative large woodcut project. Monumental prints inspire artists and the public alike to think big, set long-term goals, and have the perseverance to see complex projects to fruition.

Each year artists from all backgrounds including sculpture, photography, painting, and print participate. Artists are invited to submit a proposal to create a woodcut at least 24 x 36 inches in dimension via an open call for entry.  If accepted, artists are given two months to carve their image into a piece of plywood.  At the end of the two months, all the artists meet for a printing session at a local print studio and help one another print their woodcuts onto paper. Typically between 30 to 36 hand pulled prints are produced during two days of printing sessions. Each artist donates one print to the BIG INK portfolio.

Love Yourself Project, Figment Project, and Fabrica

Image via www.freedigitalphotos.net

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”

— John Lennon

The  grassroots Figment Project and the Love Yourself Project show us that you really only need ideas and the desire to share to promote your art and your message.
