Call for Artist Submissions for an exhibition project in Italy– Places That No Longer Exist

http://www.controzona.it/index.html

“Other places that don’t exist any longer” is a work in progress that originates from the question posed to different people: What is an important place for you that does not exist anymore?

The answer to the question takes the form of a postcard sized drawing of the place chosen by the people involved. The drawn places are of different types, some are related to the intimate and familiar sphere like a child’s bedroom or the grandmother’s house, others refer to a social or collective dimensions, such as meeting places, bars and nightclubs, others again are historical places. What binds all these places together is that they no longer exist: inaccessible, demolished, abandoned or transformed in their use.

Artists contribute to this collection of disappeared places by choosing a place that was important to you, and that does not exist any longer. You are then asked to draw this place on a sheet of paper of the size 10 x 15 cm using the technique you prefer. Please write the name of the place you have chosen and its address or the name of the city where it was on the front of the postcard. On the back of the postcard you should write your name or pseudonym.

At this web address you can see the postcards collected so far:http://www.rebeccaagnes.org/postcards.html

DEADLINE: All postcards must be received no later than Saturday 19 October 2013 at the following address:

MUNICIPALITÀ DI MESTRE-CARPENEDO,
VIA PALAZZO 1,
30172 MESTRE, VENICE, ITALY.

The received postcards will become part of the work in progress “Other places that don’t exist any longer” and will be shown the 20th October 2013 at 11:30 am at the City Hall of Mestre in the frame of “Contro Zona”, Exhibition of Contemporary Art – Mestre – 11th/20th October 2013.

Popular “feel good artist” J.R. Smith’s Paintings Sell Right Off the Artist’s Easel!

Artist J.R. Smith does well with painting sales and commissions in his home state of Texas. Even as he sent me photographs of his art for this blog article, the artist reported that he’d just received two more painting commissions that day. An art lover visiting the artist’s studio bought the painting titled Spring Ocotillo and Dove as the artist sat working on it at his easel!
Spring Ocotillo and Dove, J.R.Smith

Spring Ocotillo and Dove, J.R.Smith

The well-known and well-liked artist was painting on a Texas ranch over thirty years ago when someone referred to him as a “cowboy artist.” J.R. much prefers the designation made by one art critic who called the artist’s work “feel good art.” J.R. Smith paints public art murals and frequently exhibits his easel size landscapes, horse paintings, other animal paintings, architectural views, portraits, and abstract works in art exhibitions throughout Texas. The Texas-based artist receives national and international attention via exhibitions of his work and via his website. According to J.R. Smith, The Judd foundation hosts numerous art exhibits in their facilities throughout the town of Marfa, Texas, and “for the month of October the foundation has numerous festivities that draw folks from all over the world.”

“One of the main attractions in Marfa is the historic Paisano Hotel. During the filming of the classic film Giant, Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean stayed in the Paisano Hotel. The hotel has an exhibition space named the Greasewood Gallery and I had a very successful abstract show at their Greasewood Gallery last October during the Chinati Foundation festivities. From the show, my painting Turquoise-spikes went to entertainer Matt Skinner of Fort Collins, Colorado.”

Turquoise Spikes, J.R. Smith

Turquoise Spikes, J.R. Smith

Italian sportsman and art collector Mario Nobili recently hunted elk at a ranch in the Alpine, Texas area. He and his wife also traveled to New Mexico and shopped for art.  They stayed at the historic Holland Hotel where artist J. R. Smith has work on display and expressed an interest in visiting the artist’s studio. The artist contacted and the studio visit arranged,  Mr. Nobili arrived and purchased two pronghorn sheep paintings on canvas and a larger image on a wood panel.  The canvases removed from their stretchers, rolled and wrapped for the Nobilis to carry back to Italy on the plane. The large painting on wood put into a crate and shipped to Italy. The collector also commissioned a painting and plans to return to buy more from artist J.R. Smith.

Ghost Home, J.R. Smith

Ghost Home, J.R. Smith

Ghost towns are another popular tourist attraction, and J.R.’s  Ghost Home is a painting based on a building in the ghost town in Terlingua, Texas.
The busy artist recently completed the sixth of a series of nine Cinco de Mayo themed pieces for a Mexican restaurant and is at work on two mural panels, four by eight feet in dimension each, commissioned for a bar and restaurant.
You can contact the artist and view more paintings on his website www.jr-art.com.  You can also view more of his artwork in our sidebar image gallery at right.

Call for Artists: MIXED BORDERS and HYBRID IDENTITIES

blognightshow 003_news
Call for Artists: MIXED BORDERS & HYBRID IDENTITIES
Photography / Video Art / Video Mapping / Computer Graphics / Painting / Architecture / Installation / Sculpture / Performing Art
FREE SUBMISSION! Deadline: April 07, 2013
International ArtExpo is selecting all interesting photo works, video/short films, computer graphics works, paintings, architecture projects, installations, sculptures and performances to include in the next 2013 Exhibition:
MIXED BORDERS & HYBRID IDENTITIES – International Art Exhibition of Photography, Video Art, Computer Graphics, Painting, Architecture, Installation, Sculpture and Performing Art held in Riccione (Italy) during the Nightshow, Annual Exhibition of the Night-related Industries and Technologies (www.nightshow-riccione.com).
organizer: International ArtExpo
curator: Luca Curci

press office: It’s LIQUID Group
opening: April 26, 2013 at the Conference Centre of Riccione (Italy)
date: April 26-27-28, 2013
FREE SUBMISSION! The deadline for applications is April 07, 2013
The selection will be based on the main concept of the Hybridization and mixing of Identities and borders and it is divided into two sections: MIXED BORDERS and HYBRID IDENTITIES. Nowadays, urban environments, people, rules and limits are no more distinct realities, but they constantly modify and get mixed together, generating new connections and hybrid results. Ethic, social, sexual and religious borders get confused and we feel free to overcome and change all the limits, creating and showing a new type of identity: a crossbreed of characters inserts into a metropolis in which you can find everything you need and become everything you desire.
The exhibition concept is strictly connected to the Nightshow event, since the night is the perfect moment in which all these changes get revealed. During the night the borders vibrate and identities start to get confused.
The Nightshow is an extraordinary experience which will involve thousands of exhibitors, artists and viewers. During the exhibition there will be music events, conferences, showcases, workshops, art shows and many more. More than 100 artists from all over the world will perform music, 3D video mapping projects around the city and partners such as Redbull, Samsung, Yamaha. The event will be at the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th floor of the Palazzo dei Congressi of Riccione, where the fourth and fifth floors will be dedicated to video art, music, installations and art exhibitions.
International ArtExpo will present artists from all over the world in two main venues: Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Riccione in which we will show video art projects divided into two floors (more than 400 square metres of exhibition space), and the Palazzo dei Congressi (Riccione) in which we will exhibit photographic works, performances, installations and sculptures, paintings, architecture projects and computer graphic works. Additionally three places for the 3D video mapping in the city; strategic video projection points in all the Palazzo dei Congressi, with high visibility; dedicated rooms for solo and collective projects and exhibitions.
To take part in the selection, send your works submissions with a CV/biography, videography and some still images (only for video artists and performers), some samples of works (only for artists) or projects (only for architects) via email to lucacurci@lucacurci.com or via mail to:

VIP Contemporary ONLINE Art Fair February 1-17

Before the 1st VIP Online Art Fair ever opened, I alerted my blog readers in articles to attend. The opening hour of day of the very first VIP Online Art Fair had so many trying to access the art fair site that there were issues. I wrote a review of the 2nd VIP Art Fair, sharing screenshots of some of my favorite artworks. Now, it’s opening day of the 3rd VIP Contemporary Art Fair.

Amazingly, some artists have asked me, somewhat puzzled, why they would want to attend this art fair. To look at art of course! Don’t you love art? You don’t have to fly to Miami or New York City or Italy or London to research the art scene and art galleries, and to make connections with curators–you can do it at the online fair. No, it doesn’t replace seeing real art in a gallery or museum, but there are lots of benefits to attending the fair. Give it a try.

new Call for Artists, Architects and Designers: “Five Senses” Design Hotel!

Luca Curci Architects asks artists, architects and designers from all over the world, to join a new project: styling the interior design of an exclusive five-room hotel, based on the five senses’ theme.

The Design Hotel stands at the first floor of a high-class building of the end of the 19th century, in the centre of Bari, nearby the historical Petruzzelli Theatre. It consists of five rooms (each room will be dedicated to one sense) plus the hall and breakfast room.

The interior of this new Design Hotel, projected by Luca Curci Architects, will be based on the main concept of the 5 senses: each room will be dedicated to only one of the five senses and its style will reflect them through the use of different furniture, materials, shapes and colours. The Hotel’s guests will live a different and total experience and their senses will be stimulated and delighted in every room.

The deadline for applications is October 10, 2012.

It would be a great pleasure for us if you would help us to spread the press release among your contacts and on your website. In attachment you can find the press release and the image/banner.

Liquid Identities Call for Photo and Video Art, + Your Solo Show in Venice

Call for Artists

Liquid Identities | Venice (Italy) . September 28-29-30, 2012

Deadline: September 10, 2012

International ArtExpo is selecting all interesting video/short.films and photo works to include in the next 2012 Exhibition:

Liquid Identities – International Videoart Festival and Photo Exhibition at Scoletta di San Giovanni Battista e del SS. Sacramento in Bragora, Venice (September 28-29-30, 2012)

The deadline for applications is September 10, 2012.

The selections will be based on the main concept of “Liquid Identities” based on fluidity, motion, changing networks and cities transformations. In contemporary society boundaries are getting more and more fleeting, and also the identity; what makes every person or place a recognizable entity, turns out fluid, multiple, making the cultural, religious, ethnic borders changeable too. This change, this mutation has allowed to cross the inside of the identities creating new possible crossings, new blends. And it’s just this “contemporaneity” that makes our civilization conceived as subjected to a process of continuous evolution and cultural hybridization. There is no more limit between an identity and the other one but it is possible to walk, to cross a passage and to find oneself halfway through it, in a non-place, in a non-identity. This project is about temporary roles in changing rules, thinking about liquid borders in new evolving worlds.

The number of works with which you can participate is unlimited.

All video works must be on DVD (PAL or NTSC), no matter what the original source medium. The maximum length of videos should be 10 minutes. All photo works on every kind of support are accepted. The maximum dimensions allowed per each image are 100 cm per side. We need also copy of the CV/biography, videography and some still images (only for video artists) and some samples of photo works (only for artists) through one of the following ways:

– by e-mail

The forwarding of all documents and artworks has to be carried out through online transfer services (as for example: wetransfer.comfilecentral.seyousendit.com or other similar) at lucacurci@lucacurci.com

– by mail to:

International ArtExpo

The participation in Liquid Identities requires an entry fee for every artwork submitted and selected. Participation open to: professional artists, architects and designers, associate groups and studios.

New Calls for Artists

CALL FOR A COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION
a project of FKL (Forum Klanglandschaft) – The Rad’Art Project / Artéco association
For this exhibition artists are asked to imagine a device which protects humans from excessive noise or sound– something like the way sunglasses protect us from excessive light, as an accessory, a nice object to be worn. Sunglasses, very common objects, initially just useful, became a “vanity object”, a habit, a vice, and many famous designers started designing them, so their meaning and usefulness became something more. Now, especially in cities, there is another sense organ which is subjected to an excessively strong stimulation: our ears. Reports about the acoustic pollution in our cities are worrying and the limitations to the intensity of noise which the laws impose are indiscriminate and generally not enough to defend us adequately from the dangerous consequences. It may be necessary, thus, to use a device which provides a filter to sounds, as the sunglasses filter light. It could also become necessary and urgent to design such devices not only considering their usefulness, as in the case of the ear muffs which defend the workers from acoustic stress, but also considering their “design”.

They could be a precious or fashion object which could be worn with pride, pleasure, enjoyment.
Starting from this vision of such a possible future, we are proposing to all interested in collaborating,  to design or build an object which can be used for this purpose: protect our hearing–design devices with different shapes, with different filtering degrees for different needs.

These purposefully designed and built prototypes will be exhibited in December 2012 at Rad’Art (Mercato Saraceno), and published in a catalogue along with written descriptions.

FKL and Artéco reserve the possibility to organize, with the collected materials, further exhibitions, in Italy and abroad.
AURICOLI DA RUMORE is a metaphorical operation: the objects we will exhibit, even if they actually work, won’t be easily wearable at this moment. By simulating such a need, and designing such an object, we mainly intend to make us think about the existence of a real problem.
We wish to point out that we are not asking for a technologically efficient object: we are staying within a symbolic and poetic universe.
The sunglasses defend us from sunshine, which is a natural thing, and cannot be eliminated.
The Auricoli da Rumore, instead, should defend us from acoustic pollution, which is a typically human problem, and we wish that its solution will follow also different and more radical ways.

Please, send your work (objects, prototypes, projects and/or photos), together with a short written explanation and a short curriculum vitae ( preferably in Word), to this address by 09.30.2012:

A Wonderful New Artist Testimonial for Artist Marketing Resources

I worked with William Montgomery  August and September 2011. He had a family emergency and had to take some time off. We resumed working together recently. Here is what he wrote about my efforts:

Testimonial from William Montgomery

“Before working with Marie Kazalia I had tried working with a few consultants costing thousands of dollars with absolutely no results. Of course I tried marketing my work personally as well, with no results either. Last Fall 2011 Marie was able to introduce me to a company in the UK who licensed 15 of my images for print on Canvas and archival paper. They are Art Consultants working globally. A week ago she was able to get me a deal with a New York company which licensed eleven of my latest pieces for distribution on canvas in two sizes in Australia, Italy and the US and they are working to establish a company in Great Britain as well. I modified the files so that I am able to continue marketing the originals without competition. She has sent out a little over 100 letters of introduction to art consultants and interior design companies here in the US and other countries. We have an interview coming out shortly  in My Spotlight Gallery blog. I know Marie works very hard at this for me because I find emails at all hours of the early morning to late evening with questions, check this or that, what do you think, etc. We maintain very close contact online and we are now starting to converse on the phone occasionally which really helps to clarify any issues at hand. All in all, I have found Marie to be extremely knowledgeable and is building new alliances all the time. She excels at web networking, so if you need marketing assistance I highly recommend her company.”

Working with William has been a great pleasure. I have watched  confidence in his artworks grow daily. You may view over 2000 original artworks on the artist’s websitehttp://www.abstractfineart.com ranging from 1993 to the present.

She wanted to expand Giclee print sales of her paintings into the US, but where and how could she do this easily?  I agreed to accept and stock her prints for sales in the Transmedia Artist Amazon Pro Store, bypassing issues such as delays in shipping and receipt of prints purchased by Amazon customers.

International 100:Words Project

Hello Marie,

I hope this finds you well and in good heart.

I’m a visual artist living in Ireland and I am writing to invite you
to take part in an on-line project I recently started called 100:WORDS.

It examines and celebrates loss, love, life and the passing of time and asks
people to describe the life they have experienced using 100 words or less.

You can see the project at www.lifein100wordsorless.wordpress.com or on facebook 100words
So far I’ve received submissions from the USA, Canada, Finland, Italy, France, Australia,Russia, Australia, Venuezela, Ireland, India, Lebanon and the U.K.

I’m hoping that there will be a publication and short film to accompany the project but
this will be determined by the amount and type of submissions received.

Please feel free to pass the details on to anyone you feel maybe interested in the project.

Take care and all the best,

Rowena.
