Come Grow With Us!

After years of working with our old format Pinterest account, we have just created a new Pinterest Business account for Artist Marketing Resources. You can grow with us.

We’re setting up new options for artists on our Artist Marketing Resources Pinterest business account here. On it we’ll focus on promoting the art of our readers. (It’s all brand new and kind of bare at the moment–but it won’t stay that way for long!)

Many artists already post their art to our old Pinterest group board Art Direct From Artists and in the past we’ve promoted the board and artists heavily on Twitter.

Now you can be one of the first artists to join our new business Pinterest account version of Art Direct From Artists and add pinned images of your art available directly to buyers!

How to join Art Direct From Artists and add your art image pins–

Step 1: follow Artist Marketing Resources on Pinterest–click here to follow

Step 2: send an email (to:  mariekazalia@gmail.com) or send a private message on the Pinterest platform letting us know that you want to join our artists group board Art Direct From Artists.

Step 3: Check your Pinterest followers (look for Artist Marketing Resources–we’ll follow you back) and check your Pinterest invitations. Once you find our invitation to join Art Direct From Artists, accept the invitation and you can start adding pins of your own art available for sale to buyers! Include your retail prices on your art image pins! Buyers will contact you directly.

The Benefits

You benefit from our promotions of the group board Art Direct From Artists in our feature articles published here and on other magazine and blog platforms. Our Twitter tweets feature the group board link and select artworks, and we talk about the group board in discussions on other social media platforms.

Our past promotions of Art Direct From Artists have brought artists on the group board more visibility! It works. We know because artists who pinned their art to our old group board– which is a few years old now– have reported sales that tracked back to our Pinterest group board!

Why we like our new Pinterest Business account:
We say “our” new Pinterest Business account because we want to integrally include you and your art! My old Pinterest account is years old and so crammed full of images that it’s time to make a fresh start.
Pinterest has many new features with their new Business account option. For instance, our group board Art Direct From Artists has Sections for sorting art images for buyers to more easily search–so far we’ve created sections for: Abstract Painting, 3-D Sculptural Works, Contemporary REALISM, Outsider / self-taught /auto-didactic
The Future
We plan to promote our new Pinterest Business account and group artist boards on Twitter and via feature articles and more.
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have in a comment.

We Want to Hear From You

Let us know what other group boards you’d like us to add to our new Pinterest business account, and if we like your idea we’ll not only create the board, and invite you to join, but we’ll tweet your link and give you a shout out too on Twitter as a thank you. Just leave on comment on this article to get things started.

Get 40 Free Etsy Listings To Sell Your Art, Use Discount Coupons to Get Repeat Sales from Buyers

Yesterday’s article featured sales tips for sellers on the EyeEM app. Today, we’re sharing some tips for Etsy sales.

Set Up Your Etsy Shop and Get 40 Free Listings–

First of all, you can get your first 40 Etsy listing free when you sign up and set up your shop via this link.

Try Affordable Art Listings

Some committed Etsy sellers make many thousands of dollars selling their art and art products on Etsy. One prolific artist, Scott Bergey, offers a large selection of one-of-a-kind artworks at affordable retail prices–take a look at this artist’s Etsy shop here for ideas on what to sell in yours. Add artworks in a range of price points and let your audience of buyers tell you what sells.

How to Get Repeat Sales

Screenshot 2016-03-13 at 11.45.15 AM

It takes much more time and expense to find new buyers than it does to cultivating repeat business from your current buyers. Get repeat sales from your buyers by offering them perks such as free shipping, or discounts off price.

An Etsy shop feature allows you create discount coupon codes. In your Etsy store click on Your Shop in the top menu, then go to Promote and then Coupon Codes and select options to generate coupons.

Screenshot 2016-03-13 at 11.43.08 AM

With your Etsy shop discount codes you can offer 3 options–free shipping, a percentage discount or a fix price discount–and set a date when these discounts will expire.

Adding new listing to your Etsy shop costs only .20 cents and there are no commissions. Plus you can get 40 free listings when you set up your new Etsy shop via this link.

Share your Etsy Listings on Social Media

Pin your art images to Pinterest linked to your Etsy shop to bring in customers. Tweet each of your new listings via your Twitter account–with clickable link in your tweet and art image attached.

Artists and Collectors Join The New *Art Direct From Artists* Group on LinkedIN

ID-10011901

Art Direct From Artists began as a group board on Pinterest that has proven to be so popular that I decided to expand it into a new LinkedIN group–join Art Direct From Artists on LinkedIn here.

This new group board will make it easier for all professional to find artists with artworks for sale. Art Direct From Artists on LinkedIn is where hospitality industry executives and others, who really don’t know where to find art for their interior projects, can come and interact with artists who have artwork available.

Artists are welcome to join and pitch their work in the new Art Direct From Artists @LinkedIn group. Art buyers and collectors are welcome to join and find new emerging artists to buy from in the group Art Direct From Artists.

It’s a little bit outside-of-the-box for a LinkedIn networking group. No artist will ever be considered a spammer in this group! No self-promotions get flagged here. Artists are welcome to talk about their work. Buyers and art collectors are welcome to join and interact with artists. Artists are free to start discussions about their work and share links to their websites, online portfolios and web shops that direct buyers to where they can purchase original artworks.

The Art Direct From Artists concept has worked well on Pinterest as a vehicle for directing buyers to view artist’s work. In fact, one full year before Pinterest began offering *Buy Button* options to sell items via pinned product images, I started the group Pinterest board Art Direct From Artists— which requires that artists have retail prices on their artwork pinned images.

Best Pinning Practices for Artists on Pinterest

blogsnoopysocialmedia

Best Pinning Practices for Artists on Pinterest

Create a business account on Pinterest here and verify your website here.  Pick a profile image, such as your logo, an artwork, or a good photo of yourself. Once your website is confirmed, your logo or profile photo will appear on Pins that people pin from your site.

Create Your Boards With Informative Titles

I see so many artists on Pinterest create boards titled “My Art.”  How many boards are on Pinterest titled “My Art”?  To make a point, we did a search using the Pinterest search feature. You can too. Type in “My Art” and selected “Board.” (As we did). Many hundreds and perhaps thousands of boards on Pinterest are titled “My Art.” (We stopped counting them after one thousand.) It’s simple logic. If you paint rural homes in summer, but label your board “My Art,” how will your work stand out? How will someone looking for your style of art find it?

You can change the name of your board by clicking on the Edit pencil icon at the top right corner of your board. Give your board a title that contains useful information. “Oil paintings of Birds” or “Watercolor paintings of Sand Dunes”  or “Abstract paintings on canvas by…” –you can add your name in the board title.

Now you are ready to pin high-quality images of your art. Use high-resolution, professional-quality photographs and illustrations. Don’t use images that are poorly lit, out of focus, or that otherwise appear amateurish.

Size and Shape of Your Images Matter

Have you found teenie tiny postage stamp size images on Pinterest? Did you pin them? Probably not. If your images have a width of 600 pixels and are between 900 and 2100 Pixels tall, then they will have good image quality on Pinterest.

Also, Pinterest says that “Pins look best when they’re vertically oriented.” (From Best Pinterest Practices by Pinterest. )

Include your artist name and title on every pin! Yes, on your own art pins. I won’t pin an artwork if the artist’s name is not on it. Many others feel that way too. I also like to see the title. When uploading your art images, include your name, title, link to your site, and some details, such as materials, year created, dimensions, and retail price. Remember, your images will be Pinned and RePinned!  (Use Rich Pins on your site and pin your art images from your own website. That way anyone clicking on your image will be taken to your site. Find out more about Rich Pins below).

Write Thoughtful, Detailed Descriptions on Your Art Pins

Every Pin should have a written description that gives context and provides additional information. Your descriptive text should use correct capitalization and punctuation. According to Pinterest, “…only about 75-100 characters of your description will appear in grid view, [but] you can include up to 500 and they’ll all appear when people click to see the Pin close-up. Generally speaking, more characters mean more helpful details and more opportunities to show up in search results.”

Pinterest says, “use keywords in your descriptions, but don’t use hashtag keywords.”  (Hashtag keywords, such as #art, #painting, #drawing are excellent to use on Twitter and Instagram, but should not be include in your Pin descriptions ).

Link to your website–Rich Pins

Make Pins from your website more useful by Making them Rich Pins.  Rich Pins can automatically include information like price, availability, materials on your Pins–as long as you have those details on your website images. Rich Pins automatically update, too, like when you change your price on your website, or if you mark an artwork “Sold.”

How Often Do You Pin?

Pinterest recommends that you pin once a day so your followers always see fresh content in your home feed. But don’t just pin your own stuff. Tell a richer story by adding pins from fellow artists and from art blogs such as Artist Marketing Resources. Follow us on Pinterest here.

Stop Talking Non-Stop About Yourself — Pinterest users want pins that educate and entertain them. Engage with your followers and they will be more likely to share your pins with their networks. If you need help with this, or ideas on how to increase your engagement, leave a comment and we will discuss options with you!

Art Marketing Site Promotes Artists and Art Galleries in Unique Ways

blogflootiesgraphic_how_to

Art Marketing Site Promotes Artists and Art Galleries in Unique Ways by Dean Cameron

Having had a 30 year career in Marketing and owning an Online Art Gallery and Publishing business since 2002, it is obvious that “times are a changing”. While there is nothing inherently wrong with traditional methods such as Gallery Representation, Art Shows and such, they are rendered somewhat incomplete with today’s super connected world that we live in. Social Media Networking is paramount to the vast majority of up and coming artists and that is not just Facebook. Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, Stumble Upon, LinkedIn and now YouTube offer unique opportunities and diverse clientele to develop an artist’s brand and to stay connected to interested potential clients. So is Social Media the answer to a successful art career? I would say this. As Social Media came on like a storm so will the next best vehicle (we don’t know what it will be yet because some 12-year-old is inventing it in their mind right now) so we need to be as current as we can be.

One thing I have learned in 30 years of Marketing is that opportunities come from many directions. So our Marketing Plan should take advantage of that and cast a wide net. An Artist needs to have a complete tool box in which to develop their market and build their art creating business. We have developed that Tool Box. www.flootie.com creates a menu of items an artist can choose from in order to best suit their plans. Most “Art for Sale” Internet Sites are what we call “Post it and Forget it” type sites. You post your book of work online and hope that someone comes along and makes a purchase. www.flootie.com is not that type of Internet Marketing Site. We offer the following features for artists to be proactive in their efforts to sell their works and create their brand.

  • Flootie offers a free listing in our International Artists Directory (see Registration link for Artists and follow prompts).
  • Flootie offers a free listing in our International Art Gallery Directory. Our site works well for Artists and their Gallery partners to work together to market an artist’s brand (see Registration link for Artists and follow prompts).
  • Flootie offers very affordable subscription levels and does not charge upload fees or commissions on sales.
  • Flootie offers one on one support to answer marketing questions
  • Flootie offers all major Social Media links for sharing directly from your art listing. You can share to your network and anyone else can share your works with their networks in an easy efficient method.
  • Flootie offers a direct email invitation tool to share your activity on Flootie.
  • Flootie offers a method to automatically share your latest posts with any fan who selects you as a favorite artist in a “once per week” email notification.
  • Flootie offers an option to embed your Google Calendar to your page to keep people informed of your shows and exhibitions.
  • Flootie offers an option to include a video on your page to bring life to your relationships with potential clients.
  • Flootie charges no commissions for sales so you can drive potential clients to your website, or any other location you wish to generate traffic to. We are not competition. We are your marketing supercharger.
  • Flootie offers a blog for subscriber artists to post their latest stories, reflections and insights.
  • Flootie owns and operates our own TV Studio and produces Flootie TV now being shown in 7 states on 8 Public TV Stations with that number growing fast. Flootie TV incorporates a “general public” approach to the arts with some comedic shorts as well as serious artist interviews. Think of it as “The Tonight Show” for the arts.
  • Flootie is a socially conscious company and has an ongoing program called “Artists Forever” that awards art supplies grants to grade school art classes to empower teachers to supplement their meager art budgets in the school systems and develop the next generation of creatives.

This is by no means the end of this list. Flootie is well underway with even more creative tools for artists to connect with art lovers. Our mission is to make the term “Starving Artist” obsolete. We would look forward to seeing you as a fan, an artist or an art related business. We are a grass-roots and privately owned entity with the sole intention to bring the artists and art lovers together in an intentional way.

Current Projects of the Artist Marketing Resources

KathrynArnold_Epostcard2

This Saturday, we begin our weekly series of artist features. An international line-up of artists that we have scheduled so far– Clare Haxby, Milan Rubio, Lela Tabliashvili, Esther Lau– are members of our Artist Marketing Resources group on LinkedIn and our Flickr group. All artist members are invited to send us their art images for this series.

We also continue to invite artists to add their art to our Facebook page, Fine Art USA.

Our group Pinterest board, Art Direct From Artists continues to fill with images of artworks by over 50 artists– each labeled with  retail price so that interested buyers may purchase these artworks directly from each artist.

Our E-Postcard Marketing continues–find out more and sign up here.

We publish full Feature Articles on artists and art products here on Artist Marketing Resources– find out more here.

We continue to expand and update our resources in our Artist Marketing Resources web store where artists around the world shop.

Chris Osborne’s Jimi Hendrix & His 1969 Corvette Stingray limited edition Poster continues to be the top seller in our Amazon store for the third year in a row.

Artists: Add Your Site Link + Art Images + Retail Prices to Our Facebook Page

new work by Lela Tabliashvili on our Fine Art USA Facebook page

new work by Lela Tabliashvili on our Fine Art USA Facebook page

We continue to be amazed by the growing number of artists joining our Pinterest group board! Now more than 50 artists have added their art images with retail prices to our group board Art Direct from Artists.

So we’ve decided to give artists even more space. We’ve repurposed one of our Facebook pages (that we set up four years ago in 2010) to give artists opportunities to add their art images and links there too. Now artists are invited to add their art images + links + retail prices to our Facebook page Fine Art USA.

Just as we share, Tweet, and promote our Pinterest group board, we will do the same with our Fine Art USA Facebook page.

Artist Kay Vinson was the first to add her website link and image to our Fine Art USA Facebook page, and artist Lela Tabliashvili Art added the link to her own Facebook page, which I promptly *liked*, along with images of her art.  So, if you are looking for more page likes for your Facebook page, follow her lead.

There is a lot of potential with our overall project to give artists this grass-roots level promotion on Facebook and Pinterest. Join in! Artists add your art and links here.

We’re also looking for art to re-design the header of our Fine Art USA Facebook page. Your art posted to our Facebook page may be featured as our page header image, perhaps we will be rotating this image every few months. Also, to help promote, we may Tweet some of your art images from our Fine Art USA Facebook page, and share them in promotional blog posts like this one. We then also that Tweet our blog post, share it on Google+, Facebook pages, LinkedIN, Tumblr and Pinterest.

Group Pinterest Boards: Art Direct From Artists, Abstract Art Direct From Artists, Art Realism

Screen Shot 2015-02-04 at 9.35.35 AM

Featured group board image by Jose A. Kuesta

Last September, I set up the group Pinterest board Art Direct From Artists, a collection of artworks available for purchase directly from each artist represented on the board. What’s unique about this group board is that I am inviting artists to pin their art with retail price tags on each image.

That board was so popular that I also created the group boards Abstract Art Direct From Artists and  Art Direct From Artists-Realism to help categorize the available art.

Recently, I received feedback from one of the artist who has his artwork images pinned to the group boards, Leon Sarantos who wrote:

“Hi Marie, I’m very pleased to be able to pin on 2 of your 3 boards, Art Direct From Artists, and Abstract Art Direct From Artists. I would also appreciate being on your boards titled, Art Direct From Artists – Realism. I’m especially interested because Pinterest analytics indicates that I’ve gotten more click-throughs from your boards than from others. Nice going! Regards, Leon”

I appreciate Leon’s taking the time to let me know what my groups are doing for him, and I would love to receive feedback from the more than 100 artists pinning their available art images to my 3 group boards.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the artworks on this Pinterest board, you may contact the artist by sending them a message on Pinterest, or by clicking on the image to visit their website. If you have any problems, please email: mariekazalia@gmail.com

Follow me on Pinterest so that I can invite you to the appropriate group board. To follow Marie Kazalia on Pinterest click here.

Artsyo: Where Artists Sell Their Original Art to Buyers in Their Neighborhood

blogARTSYOlogo

I like finding art sales sites, such as Artsyo, that understand their market. Artsyo is an online art sales site for artists who live in Seattle, Washington, USA, and for local art buyers.

The Artsyo tag line–Buy Original Art From Artists In Your Neighborhood– invites buyers to get to know local artists to purchase art from them direct. All artworks listed on the Artsyo site have retail prices. When buyers find an art piece of interest on the site, they can click the Buy button and send an email message to the artist to begin communications.

Recollect 2, John Breitweister

Recollect 2, John Breitweiser

One of the artists on Artsyo, John Breitweiser, l recognized from his art pins on Pinterest. I’ve already liked and pinned many of his colorful fine art pieces to my Pinterest boards. I’d definitely want to buy art from John Breitweiser if I lived in Seattle or planned to visit. Artsyo has a Pinterest account here. Follow artist John Breitweiser on Pinterest here.  Get to know any artist using social media before you buy art from them! It makes buying fun and interesting. Artists, get to know potential buyers using social media.

Artsyo is just one of thousands of sales venues on our e-list for artists.

New Pinterest Group Board Where Artists Include Retail Price On Image Pins of Their Art

blogck-7-hottest-pinterest-tips-480

I created a new Pinterest board this morning, Art Direct From Artists, where artists may pin images of their available art with retail price on each image. For artists who pin their art images to this new Pinterest group art board, I will re-pin your images to other appropriate Pinterest boards, plus every time I pin or re-pin your art image it will appear in my Twitter feed. I’ve had several top art galleries favorite Pinterest images in my Twitter feed for @Transmediartist. Plus, there is a new Pinterest option, a *Send Board* button at the top of the board. Once the board has artwork with retail prices I will work to find interior designers and other art buyers to send the board to. As creator of this group board I have curatorial options to remove any images that do not follow the board guidelines, such as lacking retail price or poor image quality.

If you’d like to add your art to the new Art Direct From Artists Pinterest Board simply let me know your Pinterest user name in a comment here. Once I add your user name to the group board you will receive an invitation via Pinterest. Accept, read the short group tips and instructions and add your art images. Add as many as you wish. (UPDATE: Please add Marie Kazalia on Pinterest to make it easy to join this group broad.)

Be sure to include your retail price on your Pinterest Pins of your art images!

While Social Media Examiner articles are not specifically about marketing fine art, their recent article 7 Pinterest Marketing Tips to Improve Visibility really hit the nail on the head for art marketing on Pinterest.

Social Media Examiner‘s #1 tip for using Pinterest–

#1: Include Price Tags

ekaterina walter gravatar pic

Ekaterina Walter

Pinterest users aren’t just looking for creative inspiration on the network. They’re also ready to buy.

Make sure you include a price tag in the pins you create or repin. After all, Pinterest drives more referral traffic than Google+, YouTube, and LinkedIn combined. More importantly, Pinterest pins with prices get 36 percent more likes than those without.

Providing a bit of general inspiration is great, but as a business person and a marketer you ultimately want to drive traffic to your site and inspire a purchase as well.

imgfave app, a New Art Gallery, and a Call for Proposal Submissions

blogdefmagnifer

In my daily research I’m always on the look out for opportunities for artists. In case you missed these found around the web this week:

The art gallery Haunch of Venison London closed not long ago and now the former gallery directors Ben Tufnell and Matt Watkins are launching a new gallery, Parafin, in Woodstock Street, Mayfair, London in September 2014. Founder of London gallery Master Piper, Nicholas Rhodes will join them on this new venture. The new Parafin will represent emerging artists and internationally established artists.

Find a 261 page list of clickable links to International Art Galleries here.

Deadline for proposal submissions for Project Anywhere 2015 program is September 1, 2014. Proposal guidelines can be found here.

Project Anywhere is an expanded exhibition model encompassing the entire globe in which the role of curator is replaced with a peer review system. Emphasizing art outside conventional exhibition circuits, Project Anywhere specifically promotes the work of artists at the outermost limits of location-specificity.

I added the imagfave free app to my iPad just this morning. imgfave seems to be a great site for sharing your art images large and getting others to share them on Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest.  It’s easy to create a new account on imgfave and immediately upload your art, or try some cross-promotion with artist friends–upload one of their art images and have them upload one of yours.

Video: Pinterest Adds New Image Share Feature

Just a few days ago, Pinterest added a new feature. You can now send messages to your friends and share images. Which means you can send someone an image of your art via Pinterest. The Social Media Examiner  wrote an article on this new Pinterest feature, that, “when someone shoots you a pin, you’ll be able to reply with a message or send a pin back,” and “you can also send pins and message to multiple people.”

This video shows ways users share pins–

Pictify, Pinterest, the ArtStack, ffffound,MeeWork, and We Heart It

When I see a comment that Pinterest is a waste of time, I know that they just don’t get it.  Both Pinterest and the ArtStack are great places to find reference images, organize, research and study –that is, examine a subject–such as a painting style–in a way that isn’t boring or tedious! If you are a visual thinker–and most artists are–then image sharing sites are for you. (When I want to view images of a historic artist’s work, I search Pinterest and ArtStack before I do a Google search).

ArtStack and Pictify are the two major sites that are all about publishing photos of art–your art, art you love, and historic artworks that inspire. Pinterest has an art category but users share images of everything, not just art, while the ArtStack and Pictify have only art images.

I’ve used Pinterest and ArtStack for a while, but only recently joined Pictify. I’ve also discovered a few smaller image sharing sites– ffffound , meework, and we heart it.

No matter what you call it– collecting, pinning, stacking, bookmarking, posting, or finding–when you put together interesting collections of art images you will attract others to view them, including gallerists, curators, art collectors, interior designers, and home decor shoppers! So be sure to have images of your own art and the art of your artist friends uploaded to these sites too.

Glossom, a Social Media Network For Artists

On Glossom, artists upload their images, then create a montage of thumbnail snippets within a cell grid that becomes a coverage page that can be viewed in one look.

Glossom tends to promote full coverpages, on their Facebook page, on Tumblr, and on their site homepage.
