Yesterday’s article featured sales tips for sellers on the EyeEM app. Today, we’re sharing some tips for Etsy sales.

Set Up Your Etsy Shop and Get 40 Free Listings–

First of all, you can get your first 40 Etsy listing free when you sign up and set up your shop via this link.

Try Affordable Art Listings

Some committed Etsy sellers make many thousands of dollars selling their art and art products on Etsy. One prolific artist, Scott Bergey, offers a large selection of one-of-a-kind artworks at affordable retail prices–take a look at this artist’s Etsy shop here for ideas on what to sell in yours. Add artworks in a range of price points and let your audience of buyers tell you what sells.

How to Get Repeat Sales

It takes much more time and expense to find new buyers than it does to cultivating repeat business from your current buyers. Get repeat sales from your buyers by offering them perks such as free shipping, or discounts off price.

An Etsy shop feature allows you create discount coupon codes. In your Etsy store click on Your Shop in the top menu, then go to Promote and then Coupon Codes and select options to generate coupons.

With your Etsy shop discount codes you can offer 3 options–free shipping, a percentage discount or a fix price discount–and set a date when these discounts will expire.

Adding new listing to your Etsy shop costs only .20 cents and there are no commissions. Plus you can get 40 free listings when you set up your new Etsy shop via this link.

Share your Etsy Listings on Social Media

Pin your art images to Pinterest linked to your Etsy shop to bring in customers. Tweet each of your new listings via your Twitter account–with clickable link in your tweet and art image attached.

Art Marketing Site Promotes Artists and Art Galleries in Unique Ways

Art Marketing Site Promotes Artists and Art Galleries in Unique Ways by Dean Cameron

Having had a 30 year career in Marketing and owning an Online Art Gallery and Publishing business since 2002, it is obvious that “times are a changing”. While there is nothing inherently wrong with traditional methods such as Gallery Representation, Art Shows and such, they are rendered somewhat incomplete with today’s super connected world that we live in. Social Media Networking is paramount to the vast majority of up and coming artists and that is not just Facebook. Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, Stumble Upon, LinkedIn and now YouTube offer unique opportunities and diverse clientele to develop an artist’s brand and to stay connected to interested potential clients. So is Social Media the answer to a successful art career? I would say this. As Social Media came on like a storm so will the next best vehicle (we don’t know what it will be yet because some 12-year-old is inventing it in their mind right now) so we need to be as current as we can be.

One thing I have learned in 30 years of Marketing is that opportunities come from many directions. So our Marketing Plan should take advantage of that and cast a wide net. An Artist needs to have a complete tool box in which to develop their market and build their art creating business. We have developed that Tool Box. www.flootie.com creates a menu of items an artist can choose from in order to best suit their plans. Most “Art for Sale” Internet Sites are what we call “Post it and Forget it” type sites. You post your book of work online and hope that someone comes along and makes a purchase. www.flootie.com is not that type of Internet Marketing Site. We offer the following features for artists to be proactive in their efforts to sell their works and create their brand.

  • Flootie offers a free listing in our International Artists Directory (see Registration link for Artists and follow prompts).
  • Flootie offers a free listing in our International Art Gallery Directory. Our site works well for Artists and their Gallery partners to work together to market an artist’s brand (see Registration link for Artists and follow prompts).
  • Flootie offers very affordable subscription levels and does not charge upload fees or commissions on sales.
  • Flootie offers one on one support to answer marketing questions
  • Flootie offers all major Social Media links for sharing directly from your art listing. You can share to your network and anyone else can share your works with their networks in an easy efficient method.
  • Flootie offers a direct email invitation tool to share your activity on Flootie.
  • Flootie offers a method to automatically share your latest posts with any fan who selects you as a favorite artist in a “once per week” email notification.
  • Flootie offers an option to embed your Google Calendar to your page to keep people informed of your shows and exhibitions.
  • Flootie offers an option to include a video on your page to bring life to your relationships with potential clients.
  • Flootie charges no commissions for sales so you can drive potential clients to your website, or any other location you wish to generate traffic to. We are not competition. We are your marketing supercharger.
  • Flootie offers a blog for subscriber artists to post their latest stories, reflections and insights.
  • Flootie owns and operates our own TV Studio and produces Flootie TV now being shown in 7 states on 8 Public TV Stations with that number growing fast. Flootie TV incorporates a “general public” approach to the arts with some comedic shorts as well as serious artist interviews. Think of it as “The Tonight Show” for the arts.
  • Flootie is a socially conscious company and has an ongoing program called “Artists Forever” that awards art supplies grants to grade school art classes to empower teachers to supplement their meager art budgets in the school systems and develop the next generation of creatives.

This is by no means the end of this list. Flootie is well underway with even more creative tools for artists to connect with art lovers. Our mission is to make the term “Starving Artist” obsolete. We would look forward to seeing you as a fan, an artist or an art related business. We are a grass-roots and privately owned entity with the sole intention to bring the artists and art lovers together in an intentional way.

Chairish Shipping Options + White Glove Service for Artists

Screen Shot 2015-06-07 at 6.45.26 PM

I had a chat with Whitney at Chairish, who invited me to sell my art in their online home decor store. Chairish only takes 20% commission on sales of art. There are no listing fees.

Whitney said, “you’re welcome to list as much as you’d like with us.” She also reviewed my site and said–“I particularly love your fluorescent series and your spot series,” suggesting that I add about 10-15 pieces to start. So people who are interested in my work can see my range. She also said that it’s a good idea to add pieces in a range of prices—”just so some are approachable to first time buyers of your work.”

All great advice! But what impressed me most were the shipping options for artists selling on Chairish. Whitney explained 2 options to choose from–with the 2nd including “white glove service”:

Option one, is for you to take care of shipping completely on your own once an item sells. This option makes your piece show up on the Chairish site to the customer as “Shipping for Free,” which encourages sales and helps them pull the trigger. So you would just need to work in the cost of shipping when you set your asking price.

Option two, is for Cherish to handle shipping for you. If you don’t choose the “Ships for Free” option, you will just get an email from support@chairish.com with a pre-paid UPS shipping label ready to go– then you can just stick it on your package and send out to the customer.

White Glove Service: If you have any really large works (over 50” or so), Chairish also has a white glove service that simply comes to your house, packs the piece and gets it to the customer.

With both the UPS label option and white glove option the customer pays for shipping.

To start selling on Chairish, click the yellow “Sell” button at the top left of the home page. This will take you to your first submission page where you can start uploading your works. Whitney said, “there will be a little link at the top asking if you’re a professional seller, but you can disregard this.”
Artists also have a dedicated Chairish artist page that people can click into and you can customize your artist page too.

After uploading several of my paintings to Chairish, I began to also appreciate the pricing options–for each piece you add (1) your retail price, (2) your asking price, and (3) your reserve price, allowing buyers to make offers.

Whitney said that she thought my art “would do well on Chairish” and I am looking forward to some sales.

These Celebrities Bought Art From Artists on Instagram!

Screen Shot 2015-03-10 at 12.15.12 PM

The theme here of late has been selling art on Instagram.  Just last week I posted details on how to create a shop for art sales on your Instagram profile–read the article here. I also featured the news that artist Caia Matheson sold one of her paintings within one hour of creating her shop and posting her first painting to Instagram–you’ll find the article here.

So I was wowed by the news that celebrities Lindsay Lohan and Leonardo DiCaprio purchased art from artists after discovering their work on Instagram.

After reading my articles, New York artist Jane Dell asked what is the difference–a  link to her website on her Instagram profile or the shop? So the answer is that no matter your method, buyers see your work and buy it on Instagram! Just make it easy for them.

Open Call–Reviewing Art to List For Sale On Amazon

Many things have changed on A-mazon.com over the years. A couple of years before art galleries expanded to selling art on Amazon, I opened the Transmedia Artist A-mazon Pro Store in July of 2011. I’ve sold dozens of prints on paper and canvas, paintings, and limited edition artist posters in my A-mazon store.

View the Transmedia Artist A-mazon Pro Store here.

Now I’d like to revitalize the inventory of my A-mazon store by adding 100-200 more artworks.

I’m especially interested in adding artwork multiples–print editions on paper and canvas and artist’s posters. I’d also like to try some hand-painted limited edition scarves, accessories, and clothing, as well as select one-of-kind handmade items.

Send the link to your website or online portfolio for review to: mariekazalia@gmail.com

There is no fee unless your work is accepted into the Transmedia Artist Amazon store.

Once accepted you will be expected to pay a one-time fee of $10USD to cover your first five listings in the store. If you want to list ten items pay $20, fifteen items pay $30 etc. Note: One print edition is one listing (for possible multiples sales from that one listing). This token fee helps us all stay committed!

Artists provide retail prices and calculate shipping expenses for each art item listing (A-mazon allows$ 4.49 shipping per listing so that an increase in retail price is necessary to cover shipping costs). Buyers pays $4.49 shipping fee. Artists must provide one or more high-resolution jpeg image of each item(including detail views) to go on each Amazon listing.

Artists are notified when a buyers pays for an order on A-mazon and then has 3-5 business day to ship the sold item (with tracking number) sent directly to the buyer . If artists are unavailable the order may be cancelled. (I want to sign on artists who are attentive to their email and reply quickly!)

Artists receive paymen-t of 60% for each sold item 30 days after tracking confirmation verifies that the buyer has received the shipped item.  A-mazon policy allows buyers 30 days to return items.

Most common reasons for non-acceptance:

  1. item/items not suited to A-mazon sales
  2. photographs of item or items do not meet A-mazon standards
