Here is their latest art exhibition news—

EarthWE Gallery of Bergamot Station, Santa Monica is pleased to announce the opening of the first solo exhibit for Celebrity Artist Betsy Clark

“The Exiles” opens January 30 with an artist reception from 6-10 pm, and will run for 6 weeks. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11-6 pm.

Born in Seattle, Washington, current Venice resident, Betsy Clark is an actress, painter and mother with a flair for color and a love of elegance. As a child she was enamored of the acting world and the high fashion, style and elegant lifestyles of the Hollywood movie stars. She knew at an early age she wanted to live a glamorous life, and held multiple jobs while in high school, earning her own money to spend on clothing and social activities. While working in the mailroom of a bank, a teller suggested she try modeling, a moment that changed her life forever. Soon she was traveling around the world on high fashion modeling assignments that gave her a taste of that special life she had always envisioned. Once she began acting classes her natural talent was discovered, and national commercials soon followed. While in Paris working she met her soon-to-be husband, Philippe Caland, a film producer, who began casting her in his films, including the cult classic Boxing Helena. Her dreams becoming a reality, she began experimenting with other creative outlets, and painting became her next obsession.

Working in mixed media for the past 15 years, Clark has shown in various group exhibits in Santa Monica, but this will be her first solo show. This series, called “The Exiles” is comprised of 30 portraits from her imagination – predominantly well-dressed women, who look as if they are from another country and era. Says Clark, “I imagine these women have had really hard times, yet they are all so proud and dignified, and have put their best outfit on for some special occasion or party, where they may not really fit in…”

In a style reminiscent of Modigliani, the works are vividly painted in simple poses, stylized with elongated necks, proud features, and dressed in bits of fabric that Clark has collected from her travels. There are no smiles on any of them, yet the work has a decidedly optimistic feeling. Clark reflects, ”I am most proud of putting a smile on peoples faces. My mom and dad use to say to me “”Bets, you are a shining light in the room.” If I can show that through my paintings and have my light shine till the day I die, then I am a happy, grateful woman!”  Come see this exhibit  – and smile – for yourself!

New York City: Casting For Art Reality TV Show

CASTING FOR ART REALITY SHOW: NEW LAVORO

New York based artist Dora Budor is looking for participants in art reality show NEW LAVORO, shot in different locations in NYC from April 16 – April 24.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
New York based artist Dora Budor is casting for reality show NEW LAVORO. The winner will get a trip to Venice this year (Summer 2013), including accommodation during Venice Biennale, and a position as one of participants in project NEW LAVORO. The video will be premiered as part of installation in Palazzo Peckham in Venice this year, a brand new venue designed and built for the 55th Venice Biennale in the summer of 2013, situated in Castello between the Giardini and the Arsenale. NEW LAVORO is looking for 18 talented participants who are willing to experiment, and go through 7 different contests judged by well-known guest artists. Participants in the show will wear special outfits designed by NY fashion brand Eckhaus Latta. Project is dedicated to exploring relations between creative industry workers and aspirational lifestyles operating behind the curtains of current sustainable economies, and takes different approach than other art reality shows; experiments with production in extreme/realistic living conditions: minimum budgets, borderline use of materials that are ‘non-artistic’, theft or misuse of commercial resources and immaterial production, testing the boundaries of how we can produce art in time of economical crisis and material overload.

ABOUT PALLAZZO PECKHAM
Palazzo Peckham is a new social space created for the 55th Biennale. The Palazzo’s interiors are by Jon Rafman, Dora Budor, Rob Chevasse, Samara Scott, Viktor Timofeev, Simon Werner, Cindie Cheung, Keller/Kosmas, Joe Hamilton and Peles Empire. Open from May 26th, featuring a special programme of talks, performances, classes, workshops and events welcoming artists, curators, collectors and art enthusiasts from all over the world.

By paying special attention to hosting great minds coupled with a dedicated channel for online distribution, Palazzo Peckham will realise a radically diverse and inclusive program called Information Flows (But You Just Sit There). Liquid Identities Call for Photo and Video Art, + Your Solo Show in Venice

Call for Artists

Liquid Identities | Venice (Italy) . September 28-29-30, 2012

Deadline: September 10, 2012

International ArtExpo is selecting all interesting video/short.films and photo works to include in the next 2012 Exhibition:

Liquid Identities – International Videoart Festival and Photo Exhibition at Scoletta di San Giovanni Battista e del SS. Sacramento in Bragora, Venice (September 28-29-30, 2012)

The deadline for applications is September 10, 2012.

The selections will be based on the main concept of “Liquid Identities” based on fluidity, motion, changing networks and cities transformations. In contemporary society boundaries are getting more and more fleeting, and also the identity; what makes every person or place a recognizable entity, turns out fluid, multiple, making the cultural, religious, ethnic borders changeable too. This change, this mutation has allowed to cross the inside of the identities creating new possible crossings, new blends. And it’s just this “contemporaneity” that makes our civilization conceived as subjected to a process of continuous evolution and cultural hybridization. There is no more limit between an identity and the other one but it is possible to walk, to cross a passage and to find oneself halfway through it, in a non-place, in a non-identity. This project is about temporary roles in changing rules, thinking about liquid borders in new evolving worlds.

The number of works with which you can participate is unlimited.

All video works must be on DVD (PAL or NTSC), no matter what the original source medium. The maximum length of videos should be 10 minutes. All photo works on every kind of support are accepted. The maximum dimensions allowed per each image are 100 cm per side. We need also copy of the CV/biography, videography and some still images (only for video artists) and some samples of photo works (only for artists) through one of the following ways:

– by e-mail

The forwarding of all documents and artworks has to be carried out through online transfer services (as for example: wetransfer.comfilecentral.seyousendit.com or other similar) at lucacurci@lucacurci.com

– by mail to:
